HYDERABAD, APRIL 22:
Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd has put on fast track work on certain stretches in order to make up for the six-month delay the project faced earlier.

Works at Uppal and Miyapur depots and foundation works on Nagole-Mettuguda stretch are being speeded up, a company release said.

The casting yard at Uppal is almost ready and casting of segments has commenced. Pillar foundation works between Nagole and Mettuguda are being taken up in a big way by the construction wing of L&T.

“Our aim is to complete as many foundations as possible out of the 305 foundations of stage-I Nagole-Mettuguda stretch before monsoon,” Mr N. V. S. Reddy, Managing Director, said.

Mr Trash

It is actually Hyderabadi Urdu or Deccani Bol. Arguably, Urdu was invented in Hyderabad etc. in the Lashkars of Muslim forces, as a combination of Hindi, Farsi and Arabi. In due course of time, Hyderabadi Urdu took on a local form, idiomatically borrowing heavily from Telugu and Marathi etc. This evolved into an often funny dialect of Urdu. Its uniqueness creates a sort of closeness as Hyderabadis can recognize one another anywhere in the world, as soon as they utter a few words.

Example - typical words that only Hyderabadis use are Kaiku and Hau.

Regards

While shuttering arrangement for the first pillar (pier) of the Hyderabad Metro Rail is in progress on the Nagole-Mettuguda section by the Larsen & Toubro Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited, foundations are also being readied for three more piers between Nagole-Uppal.

Hectic efforts are being made to complete as much work as possible on the pier foundations before the onset of the monsoon and to make up for the recent delays. There will be 305 piers between Nagole-Mettuguda in the eight kilometres of the first stage of the project which will be operational in two years.

A formal religious ceremony indicating the commencement of work would be held on April 26 (Thursday) for the piers as well as for the construction of train maintenance, repair workshops, stabling yards at the Uppal depot.

HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said on Sunday that the casting yard – 60 acres of leased land adjacent to the Uppal depot - has been readied so as to begin casting of the segments. Each segment of about 30 ft by 10 ft and weighing about 35 tons would be required for the erection of the metro rail viaduct for all three corridors spanning 71.16 km.

About 10 segments would be fixed normally between two piers separated by a distance of about 31 metres or 100 ft. A total of 28,000 segments are to be used for the project.

Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi has also called for a meeting of the special task force of senior officials – departmental heads of various government bodies and L&TMRH MD V.B. Gadgil on April 25 (Wednesday) for the purpose.

Mr. Reddy sought to assure that work at the 104-acre Miyapur depot too has been put on a fast track such as the loose soil excavation and consolidation of earth by filling up in layers. The elevated metro rail is being built across three corridors – L.B. Nagar to Miyapur (Line one), Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma (Line two) and Shilparamam to Nagole (Line three).

Decks cleared for Ameerpet road widening

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...w/12844285.cms

Decks have been cleared for widening of the Ameerpet-Sanatnagar road with owners of 37 shops agreeing to accept compensation at market rates for their properties. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has agreed to pay Rs 45,000 per square yard as compensation to land losers.

These shops had become a major bottleneck for road-widening works with only 30 feet to 40 feet carriageway available for traffic although the road itself is over 100 feet wide. Once these shops are removed, the road can be expanded to over 50 feet to ease the traffic flow and allow taking up of work on the metro rail's LB Nagar-Miyapur corridor I.

Official sources said that it was five years back that GHMC had taken up expansion of the Punjagutta-Erragadda stretch. Shopkeepers and residents on both sides of the road in localities like Bapu Nagar and Sundernagar slums have studiously refused to vacate their plots for the last 30 years with their plea against loss of livelihood.

Moreover, neither was GHMC willing to initially pay them any compensation although it did assure them that they would be provided alternative land as the slums had come up on government land.

The town-planning wing had proposed relocation to an alternative plot spread over 5,000 square metres behind Chest Hospital but that plan was dropped with the land belonging to Chest Hospital getting caught up in legal wrangles.

But after metro rail works were taken up on the stretch, the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department issued orders for payment of compensation for both assigned land and government-vested municipal properties.

The GHMC held discussions with owners of 36 properties at Bapu Nagar and Sundernagar following which it has finalised land and structural compensation packages. "Of the 37 properties, 24 in Bapu Nagar (near Maqbara) and 11 in Sundernagar will be demolished for widening the road after payment of land and structural compensation," GHMC additional commissioner (planning) K Dhananjaya Reddy told TOI on Monday.

"Land acquisition notification for another 120 properties on the Erragadda-Kukatpally stretch will be issued soon and the process will be completed in a couple of months with an eye on the metro rail project," officials claimed.

Kolkata Metro has a simple announcement. Agla station <station name> Platform on the left/right side in all the 3 languages. That way, Hyderabad can have announcements in the 3 languages without time issues. I heard Blore Metro has really long announcements?

France's Thales Bets Big on India's Metro, Rail Projects

France's Thales Bets Big on India's Metro, Rail Projects

Quote:
New Delhi, Apr 24 (IANS): Seeing a huge business opportunity in India's public transport sector, French technology giant Thales is planning to bid for the upcoming metro projects across the country, either independently or in partnership with other firms. The company, which set up the ticketing system for Delhi metro, is also looking to upgrade the communication and security systems of Indian Railways.
"We are open to all options. Our first preference will be to do it independently. We can do it in partnership with local players also and through joint ventures," said Eric Lenseigne, country head and managing director of Thales' India operations."We can also be a part of general consortium bidding for the projects," Lenseigne said in an interview with IANS.
Thales has already won contracts for providing communication based trans-control system for the third phase of the Delhi metro project and for Hyderabad metro. It will also be providing a train protection warning system for Indian Railways.Lenseigne said Thales will bid for signalling, ticketing and communication systems of metro and rail projects, competing with players like General Electric, Siemens, Bombardier and Alstom.

Almost Rs. 200,000 crore (two trillion rupees) investment is expected to be made in various metro projects across the country in the coming 10 years. In February, a panel headed by Sam Pitroda, advisor to the prime minister, in a report to the government suggested investment of Rs.822,671 crore for modernisation of Indian Railways over the next five years. This includes Rs.20,000 crore for upgradation of the signalling system in existing routes and an additional Rs.20,000 crore for installing state-of-the art signalling system for bullet trains.Lenseigne said the company would aggressively expand in the transport sector in India and was targeting to increase revenue from this segment to at least 50 percent of the total revenue.
"Our major business in India come from the defence sector. But we will be expanding rapidly in the transport segment. Our target is to get at least 50 percent of Indian revenue from the transport segment, as is the case with our global business," he said.Thales has a significant presence in India's defence sector. Almost 90 percent of the company's $260 million business in India comes from the defence sector.Thales, which has presence in 56 countries, earned nearly $17 billion revenue in 2011. The company has big presence globally in the defence, security, aerospace and transport segments. Aerospace and transport accounted for 40 percent of its global revenue while the rest came from the defence and security segment.
Lenseigne said the company targets to double the headcount in India in the next four-five years. Thales employs nearly 250 people in India.
He said the company will open new offices, if required. "We want to be local. We will be expanding our operation wherever we get opportunity."
Besides the national capital, it has offices in Mumbai, Kochi, Gwalior, Bangalore, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
With over six decades of operations in India, covering both military and civilian space, Thales also has two joint venture agreements with Rolta and Samtel. Besides, it also has a technology company in Chennai to develop software for its global customers.

Preparatory works for the Hyderbad Metro Rail project are over and it would be completed in 2016, the Lok Sabha was told on Tuesday.

Giving the information in the House in response to a question, Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said, "Preparatory works (for Hyderabad Metro Rail project) have been completed and the ground works have been commenced. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2016."

The Andhra Pradesh government has undertaken the project in three traffic corridors of the city spanning over 71 km, he said, adding it was being executed in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. Roy said the financial closure of the project was achieved in March 2011.

"Of the total cost of Rs 14,132 crore, Rs 1,458 crore (10 per cent) will be funded by the Government of India as central financial assistance under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme," Roy said.

For eg:
No you cant.. If you want to post replies in your local language then you have to give translation in ENglish as it is a International forum.

^ That along with a few authentic and funny Hyderabadi announcements, artistic stations, great last mile connectivity and some nice marketing plan will be what I'd be wanting from our Metro.
