That's no argument This stadium wasn't designed for 2018 World Cup.

Why hurry up?
Because the complete cost already rose to unbelievable ammounts of possibly 45 bln RUB (!!!) and is on its best way to become the world's most expensive venue. If that doesn't mean much, what does? And all delays are costly.

The construction is taking so long because of serious problems with redesigning and construction itself. The stadium's retractable roof needed to be changed (the proposed membrane one wasn't strong enough for extreme winters in Piter). Then they completely changed the seating bowl and increased capacity.

Actually to date there is no final design! And some portions of the stadium had to be torn down already, because they were built along outdated documentation. It's a reall mess, this one.

Contractor has approval for up to 2,000 people on site, but in June there were literally 96 of them working. They have no certainty of the design so don't know what to build.

Good arguments but this stadium wouldn't ever been so ritzy without the WC.

This one tops that.

Not really. This is the cost of not only the stadium, but also other buildings, like the extensive underground complex. So it's not really comparable.

Besides - Gazprom Arena isn't finished and current affairs indicate the 45bln RUB isn't final at all. So far the cost has been rising by 10bln per year if I remember correctly, so there's still - unfortunately - a massive risk of exceeding the price tag of any other stadium...

Let's hope they finish both in record time.
I really plan to go to Moscow and enjoy the matches on the red square or even one in the stadium. I'm sure there will be a bombastic athmosphere.

Would be great if they will broadcast the match on that massive screen.

The stadium design is fantastic. Will be wonderful when it's finally finished.

The fully justifiable criticism must be reserved for the construction methods used and for the mismanagement (or corruption?) that is responsible for the stadium being so far behind schedule and (I guess) so far over budget.

You are not afraid to walk to the stadium which was built first half and then again 5 changed the project on track? Look how many columns to render now, it's not a flying saucer and the screw

Very nice to see that Russia is already moving forward on building stadiums and urban mobility. Glad to know that will not do here in Brazil as they leave everything to last minute. Congratulations to embrace Russian friends!!

Some of these stadiums would have been built with or without the World Cup. St Petersburg is one of Europes biggest cities and the club could become one of Europe's biggest with this stadium.

1) Vinci (France)
2) Hochtief (Germany)
3) Alpine (Germany)
4) Kajima (Japan)
5) Skanska (Sweden)
6) Turner (USA)

Very good this thought. Here in Brazil soccer teams are also building large and modern stadiums that are not used in the canopy but the clubs. Glad to know that Russia is well underway.

unbelievably slow.......

Stockholm isn't warm either you know, and they'll probably finish their stadium in 1/3 of the time. Ridiculous!
