That's why I wrote "closer to reality". It's a fun map. I didn't write "it's the ultimate map". If you have a better one, post it.

Many workers of Palm who reside in towns combine the private and public transport to arrive at the center RAQUEL GALLANT. PALM. 06:15 h. It has been leaving its house in sóller Xisco Casesnoves it resides in Sóller for 14 years and is one of the many users whom the transport deprived with the meter combines to go in center to its work of Palm. It has passed little more than one week since the meter started up for the first time and it has already modified the daily routine of numerous islanders who work in Palm. The new public transport has approached many towns the city thanks to its combination with the private transport. Car and meter are the new formula for residents of Sóller, Bunyola, Valldemossa, Esporles and zones moved away of Are Sardine and Are Espanyol. The objective, “to have more tranquillity, since it is not necessary to support the habitual cloggings nor to look for parking”, honors the neighbors of Esporles Toni Martorell and Maria of the Sea Ferrer. They begin to work to the 8.30 hours, reason why around half an hour before they arrive in its vehicle at the parking of the Universitat, they leave and they lower it there to the underground station course to the seat of Spain. Ten minutes walking and already are more in the work. “Before we had to park behind the institutes - Maria of the Sea counts, but it was very difficult to find a seat and, after being hopeless, we finished to us sometimes in a parking of payment”. Tomeu Garau used to park in the zone of Santa Catherine to go to work to the City council, although from the opening of the meter it has decided on the combination of transports, having done the change in the Universitat. “The mixed use would be due to generalize, qualifying parkings in the entrances to the city and putting more buses or lines of meter”, this other neighbor of Esporles proposes. In the parking of the station of They are Sardine are some thirty cars the workable days in the morning. “They let Them here to go to the center to work or of purchases without having problems of parking. It is that to me many users comment out”, according to assures vigilande security, Julio Marcos. The resident in Immaculate Bunyola Rosselló not even needs to park. They take it in car until the UIB and, thence, the intermodal station “by the fastest route”. Wednesday proved this option for the first time, after to have habitually used the bus like transport means. Nevertheless, “the number of frequencies does not have comparison point”, concludes. Another ex- user of the bus is Pere Palou, that combined east public transport with the car. “Alive in Esporles and before he parked in the Muntant - to about five kilometers of the town to thence take the line of Establiments of the EMT”. Nevertheless, the arrival of a meter every 13 minutes caused that did not think twice it. Anyway, it has not left the buses public, because, when it goes loaded of weight, number 2 rises in the circular line to cover the short passage from the seat of Spain to the neighborhoods with Jaume III. http://www.diariodemallorca.es/secci...=1178428586932

Mallorca electrification contract awarded
10 Feb 2017

SPAIN: A joint venture of Siemens, MAN and Sampol has been awarded a €25m contract to electrify at 1∙5 kV DC the 31 km of single track between Enllaç and Manacor on the 1 000 mm gauge SFM network on Mallorca. Main works are expected to begin in March.

The contract includes the construction of four traction substations, five transformer stations and a power feed from the island’s electricity grid. Sampol will be responsible for modifying the SCADA system that it had previously supplied, as well as other electrical works.

There is no metro expansion.

If you're referring to the proposal of a second line posted a few posts above (actually 10 years ago), it was an electoral promise by a regional government that wasn't reelected (and whose members ended up in prison for corruption). Anyway, it was a project of the Spain before the 2008 economic crisis. Nothing like that is nowadays realistic.

The only main improvement in the past 10 years has been the electrification of the trunk line of the suburban metwork, which will be completed once the branches to Manacor and Sa Pobla are electrified in the short term. On top of that, there was a tram line under construction between Manacor and Artà, but it was abandoned and turned into a bike lane. Besides, the urban section of the suburban network between Palma and Marratxí was rebranded as a second metro line.

Such a shame to hear. Hopefully one day the system is expanded to cover the rest of the City and link up to the Airport.

A tram line between the city center and the airport was planned in 2007-2011, but it was also cancelled after a change of government.

Actually, besides funding, one of the main problems for the development of rail in Mallorca is that every time there's a change of government in the Balearic Islands, the new regional administration scraps all what the previous one did. And since 1999 there has been a change of government every four years. I mean, no regional president has managed to be reelected, so basically both PP (right wing) and PSOE and its allies (left wing) switch positions every four years and then every time they try to promote new transport projects without taking into account what the previous government had done.
