Record third quarter for Sutton Coldfield economy

Company formations in Sutton Coldfield reached a record high during the third quarter of the year, according to a new report from Duport.co.uk.
Between July and September there were 221 new company registrations - more than any other third quarter on record for the town. This figure also represents an 18% rise on the same period in 2011.
Business start-ups are becoming a key economic driver for the economy of Sutton Coldfield. The new business sector accounts for around 8 % of the overall start-up economy throughout the Birmingham region, and around 9 per cent of the local workforce is self-employed.

An interesting piece here.
Temple Bar is to close in the new year and has been bought out by restaurant chain Nandos. Temple has failed to make money due to the expensive rent placed upon the building, with Nandos one of the few chains with the economies to make a success of the site.

While I can't get excited over Nando's... I've never been - its just chicken in a basket as far as in concerned it might bring Sutton to life a bit in the evening.

Is anything coming of this new bar by Natwest? There's a small screen above the door but little sign of life.

I drive pest Temple twice a day and I can't believe its been open for so long and most of the time is closed. They are only open 4 nights a week, the refit must have cost a bomb. So not suprised at all, the rent must be sky high my only thought was it must be been a money laundering operation.

I remember when Temple opened, it just seemed really confused about what it's target market was. It seemed to style itself around a slightly mature, upmarket kind of customer, except all those lot either went into the city centre or Mere Green. When I went in there it was a bunch of old blokes and groups of teenage girls - an odd mix. It then leant towards the sports bar kind of concept which just never worked (does it ever?).

I don't know how things went in more recent years but it had a very shaky start and it doesn't sound like it ever really recovered.

So glad to see Temple is closing down. Their door policy was straight out of the 1980s. I've never known a place so out of touch with reality.

Can't see that new club lasting too long either. That one seems also a decade out, at least.

Hyde after Dark is open. It just doesn't look very open.



For NYE they have enticed Dave Pearce ex Radio 1, he must've sunk to new depths.

Sutton really seems to be trying to get a bit of nightlife.

Over 30's could work. The issue with Sutton is that it has always been associated with six formers.

I'd like to see Wetherspoons relocate to The Knot (Reflex) and bring in a new restaurant on the island.
