The Mere Green scheme went in for planning in mid-June. Decision will be made tomorrow, this one totally skipped my radar. I'll upload some elevations and plans for you in a bit.

OK, so here is the Mere Green scheme designed by Kinetic.
View from Carlton passage: ![]() Holden Way and Sainsbury's Car park ![]() Holden Way ![]() Some other elevation ![]() Ground floor plan ![]() First floor: ![]() Second floor: ![]() Third floor: ![]() Another ground floor one: ![]() Corner detail: ![]() Proposed new square: ![]() I have no clue about the area so I'm relying on you to work it all out. Personally, I think the design is shit. It's mediocre and plain trashy in some places. This could have been a much higher quality, more attractive scheme. I like the idea of a new square but there is a lot of potential here that has been lost.

I'm never rarely up at Mere Green, but i do know the layout abit, but it does look shite. Whats with the dark blue sky on the renders:S
Im not really bothered about whats going on at Mere Green, im more intrested in Sutton Coldfield or Erdington. hopefully something is in planning for Erdington behind the stage! If Mere Green can have that, im sure Erdo will but better. |

Looks like it's all go
http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/...name_page.html £50m to be spent on shops centreAug 10 2007 A SUTTON Coldfield shopping centre is to get a £50 million revamp after plans were given the go-ahead. Building work is expected to begin next spring on new shops, restaurants, bars, a new public square and 152 flats at Mere Green. City planning chiefs gave unanimous backing to developer Spring Ltd's scheme for the centre. This was despite objections from many local residents and the Mere Green Neighbourhood Forum - who were particularly concerned at the numbers of flats and lack of car parking for shoppers. Forum spokeswoman Shirley Varlow said: "This seems to be designed for a town centre and Mere Green is not a town centre, but a small commercial area in a residential district." Spring Ltd architect Brett Lovett, a Mere Green resident, replied: "This is a fantastic opportunity to improve this area. It will benefit the community." This was backed by the planning committee. Coun Peter Douglas Osborn (Cons, Weoley) said: "This is an exciting scheme which will provide a heart for the area." |

That's a real bummer. I would have objected to the scheme if there was time

I agree. It's a difficult one. I'm more worried about the supermarket design although we're gunna have to wait and see on that one.

On the residential development next to Good Hope, the roof trusses for the one house have been lowered into place using a rather big temporary crane. The other house being built has not progressed to anywhere near the stage of construction of the other.
As for the houses being built up the road; the windows have been fitted and they are finishing off doing the roofs. The crane for that came down quite a while back. There seems to be some construction going on near John Willmott School/ Fairfax School at the Reddicap too. There is a tower crane there. I haven't seen what's going on yet but I hope to some time soon. Plus a scheme on the Reddicap near the two tower blocks has been approved not long ago to demolish the existing houses (about 4-6) and build about 14 on the site of them and the gardens. I'll get some pictures as soon as possible so they won't disappear before I get there!

Most people probably know about this already but, for those who don't, the Job Centre in Erdington is moving to the empty building on the Sutton New Rd in just the next few weeks.
