Mixed Brisbane Transport Pictures

Taken today as I bashed the hell out a $5.20 zones 1/2 all day ticket (trains, ferry and busses, if only we had trams too).

Chinimick, I think that's Greenslopes station, I only stayed long enough to get a bus back.

The second station is Buranda, which is a cool station, you have a freeway, going over a train tunnel, going over a bus tunnel.

Awesome Pics as always AB. Love the busway shots as Ive never been on the busway. I really would love it if the Train Stations were brought up to the same standard as the busway standards.

Oh ok. I've been through the busway many times, but because Holland Park and some of the others look alike, its hard to tell which is which.

Thankyou

The way to remember is that Holland Park West is elevated while the others are built at ground level.

Excellent shots AB.

Hope you don't mind, but here are some more photos of Brisbane's public transport system. Most are from flickr, but some are my own.

RAILWAYS

Brisbane Central Station

Roma Street Station

Park Road Station.
A new busway station (on the Boggo Rd Busway) will link right into the pedestrian bridge, providing a convenient transfer point between the bus and rail networks.

Interior shot of an EMU, Brisbane's first electric trains delivered from 1979 onwards.

Interior shot of an IMU, used mainly on interurban services to the Gold Coast and (sometimes) the Sunshine Coast.

Interior shot of an SMU MkII, mainly used on Brisbane suburban services.

Airport Line at Toombul

Toowong Station entrance.

BUSWAYS

South East Busway
At Woolloongabba

At Holland Park West shortly after resurfacing works in November 2006 (hence lack of line markings).

At the Cultural Centre (this is the short 100 m section of on-street running)

Inner Northern Busway
RCH (Royal Childrens Hospital) Herston Station under construction in Sep 2005.

And what it looks like now:

Nice central pics, they always come out very dim when I use my camera there.

I didn't have the balls to take any internal shots on the trains or busses, most were too crowded, and I was feeling geeky enough taking the station pictures when the least amount of people were about.

I don't feel geeky taking pictures of buses. Last year on the week the Riverside Expressway was closed, whilst waiting for the bus home at the Cultural Centre in peakhour, I took heaps of photos of buses and the station.

Is the cage over the Royal Childrens Hospital because the golf course runs beside it, or is that another station?

Yes I think so, because they are next to the Golf Course. There isn't one over Normanby because its not at risk.

But, it has been quite a while since I went through that busway, so I might be incorrect!

Cool shots. I'm a big fan of Brisbane's PT network
The footbridges crossing the tracks at Windsor and Gaythorne look odd. I admit those that are less mobile wouldn't like using them.

And I remember last year using Central Station and it was funny seeing just a handful of barriers and an open area where in Sydney i'd normally be accustomed to gates. Is there a reason why the rail network (even the entire transport network) not have magnetic tickets? They'd work.

Amazing how clean the city's stations are too

What I don't like about the stations are the old fashioned station names with the QR logo.

I don't know why, but we just never moved into magnetic ticketing. Doesn't really matter now we're getting the smart cards though.

And the city stations being clean!!!!! Roma Street is, but Central is absolutely disgusting. Last time I was there, I went to the bathrooms and someone had wiped shit all around a cubicle. Stench was unbelievable! I purposefully caught the next train up to Roma Street, just to do a crap.

I hate central. Its hard to access (there is only 1 enterance from street level that I know of) and its just not a nice place.

I find that trains are generally clean. Is it normal for all the lights to go off when they change tracks?

Buses are way more dirty that trains. Once I got on a bus that had poo on all the windows splattered in like tiny dots. It stunk as well, so I jumped off the bus and got on another one.

As for toilets, I never to go any public ones, they are always disgusting werever you go. The only place I ever go to the toilet is at home (yes, I can hold on all that time ).
