It wasn't so horrible, if you lived in Budapest.

I always wondered if there are plans to extend M15 south via Szombathely and Zalaerszeg towards Nagykanisza and Kaposvar. Those are major cities not being close to a motorway (except for Nagykanisza)

this is a possible final plan for the whole country (2030)

and this is what will probably happen until 2015

I wouldn't say that... There were 1 789 000 passenger cars in Hungary in 1988, and 3 055 000 in 2008. International freight traffic was much smaller back then though. A trip to Nyíregyháza was a nice 4-5 hours of driving

With the promised 8 month delay, will the M43 still be ready in 2k10?
And also, the map implies that the M0"a"-M5 shortcut will be finalized next year. Afaik, it's hard to believe that this will happen.

(btw, for the sake of clarity, will the "future old" section between "future new" M0 and M5 be called M0a or M51?)

that quoted map was produced in 2008 (i think) so it is indeed probably out of date

the M0-M5 shortcut will probably not happen next year, but the M43 is likely, end of year though

the current section of M0 between nr. 51 and M5 will be called M51

i dont think there is a problem with the numbering at all, with the exception of the M300 which looks stupid with the 3 digits

no, section from Boly to border will be built later, probably works could start at 2012 and end about 2014-15. i'm talking what we could expect from HR side, i think the same is from H side. probably we won't see border crossing there

I dont think HR will join immediately Schengen, when entering EU, so there will be probably some minimal border infrastructure easy to remove.
