Thanks, yes I think I remember the widening/reconstruction was finished in ´02 (if my memory is not in "Alzheimer-light" condition).

M31 saves 17km for those travelling between M3 and M5/6/7/1.

Today, if you are coming from he East on M3 and wish to continue to the West on M1, going through the city center instead of going around on M0 saves you 45km. This difference will now be reduced to 28km. This extra 28km is now clearly worth doing to avoid Budapest completely.

not 17, only 16...

not 28, but 25...

and it will be reduced further by 4km by the new shortcut between 51-M5.

so the M0+M31 will be only a 21km detour between M1-M3...

but the M0 south is very congested and there are frequent traffic jams, so it will be a proper route only in 2013 or in 2014, when the widening and reconstruction will be completed...

Alright, my numbers came from Google maps. But it doesn't really matter anyway.

I would rather go around than sit in a traffic jam in central Budapest. Maybe at night it is a good idea.

Strange that we have M0 since many years (wothout major improvement) but Belgrade build its half ring road these years and it looks much "future-proof" than M0's southern section.

M0south is "future-proof", the only problem is the unfinished widening.
(it should have been done a decade ago...)

half-ring of belgrade is only 1/2 ready, and is only a 2x1 half profile...

it will be immediately overcrowded as the two missing parts will be build, so it should have been built as a 2x2 full profile)

Guys, what about M2? No progress this year? I am using it when I travel to Budapest and there was a plan to built up it into a full profile this year if I am sure.

no.

but there is no significant traffic, only 25.000/day...

its enough to paint a wide red stripe in the middle of the road...

25 000 / 30 000 is the maximum for a road like that. There is absolutely everything, so just to build there another 2 lanes.

Btw, this red stripe is near Budapest on M2

25,000 is significant traffic and widely regarded as a volume justified to build a motorway.

I wonder which projects mr. Laci actually approves...

Maybe the decision about M2 has to do something with political disagreements between Slovakia and Hungary?

What is the AADT for M15 and M30 to Slovakia?

Traffic of M2 is generatd by Vác and the agglomeration of Budapest, not southern Slovakia.

M15 and M30 have a few thousand cars a day traffic.

Nah,you got it right, but this will be the case with M15. Bratislava is slowly building its agglomeration on our side of the border.

ON Slovak side the traffic is so low, actually till Vac the traffic isnt worth to build a full profile mtoorway.
About M15 ,i dont know , probably it isnt still a priority for Hungary to upgrade it to a full profile motorway. And This has nothing to do with politics, which in any case is going to improve with the new Slovak government.

Chris, have you ever heard about irony?

its total insane to build full motorways for 5-10.000 and paint wide red stripes (getting the idea from the Netherlands) on half profiles which has 25.000 at the same time...

but this is exactly what we do now...

certainly not.

this is the tipical problem of staged construction:

the 2nd stage (2nd half profile) is ALWAYS delays, because stupid politicians want to build only NEW roads because they think the voters dont think to widenings as "construction"...

Quote:

M15: 13.000
I think we can wait with the 2nd profile till 20.000
(there are LOCAL roads around budapest which have traffic around (or above) 20.000. I think this is more urgent problem...)

M30: 16.000, but mainroad #3 at the border is around 4.000, which is very low, the mainroad is quite enough...
(only 2 bypasses required...)

mainroad #2 (the continuation of M2): 12.000 above vác and 7.000 at the border

but I think we have to upgrade not this route, but to build the M0north-M10-esztergom/sturovo new danube bridge route...
this route could lure away significant traffic from the mainroad#2...
