I drove through Hungary last thursday, from Zagreb to eastern Slovakia (Letenye-{M7}-Budapest-{M3}-Miskolc-Tornyosnemeti). Net driving time was exactly 5 hours, average speed 96kph.

I approached Budapest at 7:30 p.m. I wanted to try M0 and new M31, but co-driver convinced me to go through Budapest and it was a good idea. It took 43 minutes to get from M0xM7 interchange to M3xM31 interchange. M0 and M31 path between those 2 interchanges is 68 km long, so average speed 95kph would have been need to get driving time 43 minutes. It seems like it's impossible now, but what about the future? When expansion works and new short section near M5 is finished, would it be possible to get average speed 90-100kph on M0 and M31? I think speed limit on southern sections of M0 was 80 or 100 and on M31 it's 110..

Speaking of bad traffic on M0-south, here is a video I've recorded exactly one week ago:

The Eastern section of M0 has a speed limit of 110 km/h, just like the M31. When the widening and extension is done, the limit on the Southern section will also be 110.

It makes no sense using M0 south before extension is not completed. Its hell.
Thanks a lot! It's good to know.

I expect that M7 - M3 will be faster through the city even after M0 widening will be finished, at least outside rush hours. Weekdays, 7-19h the ringroad will be faster.

Yeah right, at night I need for the M1-M3 distance about 20 minutes through the city, which is impossible on M0 no matter how wide it is. That shows only how crazy traffic is in Budapest during rush hours (and that a straight line is always the fastest way between 2 points :-)
