If you look carefully, you'll notice a dashboard of Renault Laguna Second generation that doesn't know what a speed limit is. My work here is done.

M3 progress report from December, 2011

Pavement structure construction
running on the M3

One year after launching the works,
handing over of the site is now complete on
the entire main carriageway, enabling works to
proceed undisturbed on Colas-Hungária’s section.
We managed to achieve significant progress
regarding earthworks – until October, some 1.7
million cubic metres of built-in material was
submitted to the Client for compensation in the
form of soil replacement, embankments, improving
and protective layers, indicating a 70% completion
level. Progress is also spectacular with respect
to road base construction, where we averaged
over 1500 tonnes/day in building the unstressed
C12/15 concrete pavement base course. On
aggregate, 18 616 m3 of cement-bound road base
has been completed from the pavement structure
originally designed with a layer of CKt.
One of the key events of recent months is that
we have received an order from our consortium
partner, Közgép Zrt, for construction of the main
carriageway pavement structure on their section.
Colas-Hungária and Strabag established a joint
paving team to complete the required asphalt
trial section, with both companies delegating an
asphalt paving crew and two rollers to the unit. We
expect that Hungary’s longest stretch of motorway
will be available for those visiting their relatives
during next year’s Christmas holidays.

of course the construction site is between Nyíregyháza and Őr (main road 49), and not Vásárosnamény (that will be the next section)...

It looks to me that the opening could be in late 2012. When is it scheduled?

My questions would be: how did they properly compact the embankments around those poles in the first place?

I assume they've constructed an alternate transmission line, and tear this one down once the new one goes into operation. Otherwise it's weird.

Yes, right now the construction of the motorway will end at the town of Vásárosnamény about 20kms from the border, in 2013 dec, untill the intergovernmental agreement is reached on the future border crossing and the Ukrainian side starts building the connecting infrastructure.

When built (completion deadline: 09.30.2013) this will be the easternmost access point (towards the CIS) of the integrated EU motorway system.
