imo old part of M0 should be avoided at all costs as long its a construction site. it makes absolutely no sense to drive there if you go to serbia (heading towards romania is a different story of course). and M6 has plenty of free capacity believe me.

as soon M0 is widened to 2x3 its ok to use M5 again, but until then its just a damn big parking lot.

EDIT:

vienna-novi sad via M5-> 547 km, 6h 48 min (its almost sure you get stuck in a jam either on old M0, or at the border at horgos)
vienna-novi sad via M6-> 565 km, 6h 55 min (as i said, there is almost no traffic on M6, and border hercegszanto is also really quite. disadvantage: you have to pass thru 3 villages and the city of baja in south hungary, and i dont know thru how many in northern serbia)

You are right in speed limits, full chaos and expressway cathegory is misinterpreted.

There are:
- 2x1 main roads with at-grade intersections on 100 km/h (eg. 1, 89, 117, 405),
- the same on 110 km/h (3, 67, 710),
- 2x2 main roads with at-grade intersections on 100 km/h (8, 47),
- the same on 110 km/h (3, 4, 8)
- 2x1 expressways on 90 km/h (M2, M15)
- 2x2 expressway on 80 km/h (M0)
- 2x1 expressways on 110 km/h (M9, M19, 61)
- 2x2 expressways on 110 km/h but not signed M-road (4 - future M4)
- 2x2 M-roads signed only priority road /not expressway/ (M85, M86) but 110 km/h!

???

And please tell me any practical difference between this two notations:

Road 3 /M3-Gyöngyös/ before 2008:

The same road since 2008:

and whats the sense of S2 anyway? why cant it be A23 continously from A21 to (northern section of) S1? suddenly A23 becomes S2. weird...

I think I´ve red some news(www.boon.hu) about M3 to Vásárosnamény. The motorway(M3) should reach the area in April ´14

It looks good. I like that little left shoulder in left turns, to improve visibility. Some countries forget that, which can result in more accidents.

If I'm to ask, that option with higher speed limits on the major highways not being up to motorway standard is interesting, it shortens commuter time and increases compliance (the driver is able to drive his way in a reasonable time so it is less prone to breach the posted lower limits elsewhere).

As for the M0 and 80 km/h, it's quite normal on urban highways with large volumes of traffic and w/o emergency lane (I mean the old alignment)

It is not the thread, it is the activity that has been killed, there is only endless blabla-ing left, which seems to be enough to satisfy this "half Asian" nation, (or at least the Asian half of it).

"(afterall, we are magyarok!!!) "

Are you? Anyway, I guess the point is that there is not much going on, and this used to be a much busier thread.

The main problem is we do not have regular photo coverage of the ongoing constructions. E.g. a couple of years back I had the will and spare time to drive around the country to update this thread quite often, but sadly those times are gone... We are almost completly depended on the official sources, but compared to for example Slovakia or the Czech Republic, here in HU no one gives a shxt about photo updates.

And of course the intensity of road developments dropped too.
