Szatmárnémeti is pretty straight forward to me, and I don't speak any Hungarian.
As is Nagyvárad, Temesvár, Kolozsvár, Nagybánya etc.

Once this section of M3 opens, what will be the extent of new E579? Will it appear only on the new M3 section, or all the way from the M3 & M35 junction to the Ukraine border on both M3 and main road 41?

You need specific knowledge that these names are actually Hungarian names for foreign cities. I doubt whether any German, Swede or Spaniard understands that Szatmárnémeti is not some other town like Nyíregyháza, Vásárosnamény or Mátészalka, but the Hungarian name for a city in Romania. To the unknown it might be just another place in the area.

Isn't that a way of expressing, that these cities should belong to Hungary? As I experienced, many people - including the current government - still can't accept Trianon.

no, it has to do with the lack of any kind of system anywhere in hungary. everybody does what comes into his mind. as i pointed out, there is a cyrilic sign for munkács on an another motorway in hungary.

There are a lot more of these distance/direction signs, one on M5 between M0 south and east.
It indicates Szabadka - Subotica and Nagyvárad - Oradea.
Other signs lead to Bécs - Wien, or Pozsony - Bratislava.
Until now, there seemed to be some kind of system behind it.

This is not that clear. Nagyvárad could be easly confused with Arad (instead of Oradea).

i think they will replace this one sooner or later by a bilingual sign. on the other hand, who cares? gps leads you everywhere, to oradea and to nagyvárad

There is no information about E579 on UNECE website (mobility and transport). I think there will be new amendments in E- Transport Routes in near future.

E-routes are not managed by the European Union, but by UNECE, part of the United Nations. The E579 is not included in the most recent AGR of 2007.

By the way, have they constructed the new Nyíregyháza-nyugat (west) interchange already?

The main thing is that they are going to open the last section of M3 in January. Bitching about the delay on different forums I think might have helped.

That's when they last published a full list and rough map. Hungary submitted E579 to the UNECE, and they approved it (like the E16 Galve extension) in 2009: see page 18 of this .pdf document, which amended the list with:

E 579: Görbeháza - Nyíregyháza - Vásárosnamény - Beregdaróc

Or this .pdf, found on this page for 2012 working documents of the UNECE committee on transport. It has a map of Hungary's E roads, as part of an E66 extension proposal. Though it doesn't have the E579 number on it, but does mark the relevant part of the M3 as an E road (though not the not the bit further east).

Are there any plans to connect Szeged with Debrecen? When is the M9 planned to finish?

@E579: but why again just to the border (like E653)? It doesn't make sense. And why to Beregdaróc and not to Beregsurány?
