Welcome. The best source of info about it is this:

http://forum.index.hu/Article/showAr...1&la=124344769

but it takes a lot of reading. You'll have to scroll down a lot. The situation regarding M35 is quite complicated, so it is no big surprise.

All motorways and many national roads are closed. Strong wind made 1-2 meter high blocks of snow. Lots of cars have been blocked in roads for 15-16 hours.
(Images of index.hu, got from car drivers)

All bus services in Western Hungary are cancelled. Some trains are in operation but have a delay of 60-360 minutes.

It is not so funny. Approx. 600 cars are blocked in snow near to Székesfehérvár right now. Many people there are ill or simply thirsty.

From what I've heard from realtives, this chaos is largely due to a large amount of trucks attempting to quickly rush out of Hungary on Thursday before the long weekend including today's national holiday of March 15. Although these fierce weather conditions had been forecast before, police did little to stop these trucks from undertaking a trip where they were likely to end up stuck somewhere on the road / off the road. At the very least, a sensible deviation of truck traffic would have been necessary. Now, trucks are stuck everywhere, blocking the rest of traffic, and the rescue/removal of every one of them requires hours. Assistance from the military was only requested around noon today!

Lucky people stuck in traffic were able to make it to some night shelter (cultural house, school building etc), less lucky ones spent the night in their vehicles. In areas with stranded people, shops and pharmacies were partially open today despite national holiday.
I've also heard local people in these areas were bringing vast amount of food and other basic necessities to where motorists spent the night, with the village mayor co-ordinating the efforts. Unlike police, these civilians did a very good job.

Wow those are some incredible scenes. This looks worse than the blizzard that hit northern France and the UK / Belgium earlier this week.

By the way, I think that last photo is Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.

I've read the Hungarian army is even bringing out the T-72 main battle tank to help out with the rescue of stranded drivers.
