I dunno, it depends on when are you plannig to travel. But personally, since the Arctic air unit is coming over central Europe, I would avoid driving outside motorways which are, according to my experiences, better maintained in case of snow calamity or freezing than primary or secondary ones.

Thanks!

My plan is to travel in the area on 29th of December.

I will see then what I will choose, depending on weather and light. Still haven't clinched the M7 yet
I could consider that "shortcut" another time.

From the 1st of November the motorway maintainer (ÁAK) and the main road maintainer (Közút) has been merged because this way the country can save money by using less engineering facilities. The road cleaning was neither good during previous years. I thing this winter it will be worse due to the less road engineering facilities and it will be a total chaos deu to the new organisation structure... So I don't recomment to use main road this winter if it snows.

And the system cost of the CZ system is very high, so net revenue is even smaller.
According to this article till 20 of November the total income from the HU-GO toll system was 65.3 billion HUF which is above the projected income rate. So it is definietly succesful. The most money income was from M1 and M5 motorways, but it's also interesting that more money came in from road 86 than from M6... Let's hope that they will use this money for maintenance of existing, and development of new roads.

The National Transport Strategy was also released this week:

Just out of curiosity... when should a map look like this? Around 2050?

If the red and purple bits of that map are built by 2020 that is really good going Hungary has a good network already.

yes, the network is good already. i think there are not more than approx 400 kilometers left to build which i consider as important: M0, M4, M10, M86. and widen M1, M2, M15, M70. thats all.

then maybe bringing all motorways from the core network to the borders: M3, M6 (about 2x 20 kms).

the other projects are extravagance (= should be built, but have no prioirity)

Those project will be probably never built. It is just common strategical step of governing politicians how to get more voters especially from regions, those exctravagant projects are planned through

Future path of the M0 between Main roads 11 and 10.

From east to west...

(Verso) Don't count your chickens....
BTW M70. I always thought it should be toll free for Slovenians together with the short tail of M7 between M7xM70 and the Croatian border. In return Slo should make their section between Hun - Lendva - Hun also free for Hungarian cars (not trucks). That way local traffic could use it more, too. What do you think?

It's against the EU regulations to make such a discriminatory rule.
