Is something happening to extend M30 to the north (and maybe M2 as well)

Could you provide some link what is actually in construction in the whole country ?

Hungarian network is amazing
Looking at map you can say it`s Western European level
I believe quality is good as the bad motorways to Balaton was repaired
many years ago - is it correct ?
I couldn`t believe when I saw that M3 reached Vasarosnameny

With the new M85 and M86 sections, by the end of next year you will be able to drive all the way from Gyor to Szombathely only on dual carraigeway.

Well thanks but there is still a lot to build. As jack said it in the Hungarian thread, the core of the network is mostly completed so you can reach most of our big towns via motorways but there is still a lot more to be built.

This map provides you a plan for the next 12 years:

Yes, the M7 Budapest-Balaton (only one motorway, not motorways unfortunately ... I wish there was a motorway from the Western border to the lake!) was refurbished in the late 1990s or early 2000s if I recall correctly. I remember the quality of surface it had before. That feel of Socialist "maintenance"!
In the direction Budapest -> Balaton, the right lane often was in a much worse state than the left one, leading slow drivers to use the left lane despite the right being empty, and of course forgetting to check rear mirrors for faster traffic.

A current map: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...10_10_2014.png (blue = in service, red = under construction, green = planned)

The 12.3km M9 extension east of Szekszard is marked in red. The wikipedia article says works begun in 2010 but there were problems? (Sorry, I don't understand it. The source from January 2013 is also too long).

Quote:
2010-ben kezdődött az 51-es és az 54-es számú főutak közötti 12,3 km-es szakasz kiépítése. A Kormány a 1653/2012. (XII. 19.) Korm. határozatban foglaltak, a Vegyépszer csődje, részben pedig a jelentős régészeti költségek miatt állt a megvalósítástól és visszavonta a kiemelt uniós projekt státuszt. Az építésre kapott majdnem 13 milliárd forintnyi uniós támogatást is visszavonták.
The satellite view looks like works - not only preliminary works like archeological works - have already been done there!?

I guess I should add it to my list, shouldn't I?

M9: Dusnok – Nemesnadudvar 12.3km (2010 to suspended) [1st c/w] – ? – map

What does the legend mean: black = motorway, green = 2+1 road, orange = 2x2 expressway? (but M85/M86 isn't orange!?)

Does the map show a current plan or is the map "old" or even already "outdated"?

Yes it has been suspended at a very early stage.

The map is from September 2013. This was the first one I could find to show jtybinka the planned projects.

black: 2x2 motorway/expressway
green: upgradable 2x1 expressway
orange: "narrowed" 2x2 expressway

Anyway in my personal opinion the most important projects (aside from the ones which are already u/c like M43 between Makó and the Ro border) are finishing the M0 ring and building the complete M4.

What's about the motorways to Austria? M85 to A3.at and M8 to S7.at. Are they really "important"?

Any plans for new road (e.g. any kind of expressway) between Komarom and Szekesfehervar (M7) ? I remember that there has been some idea of such a road in long term plan...

Is Hungarian expressway standard similiar to ...... Poland ? , Czech ? , Slovakia ?

Is it freeway , 2x2 , emergency line ?

I read something before you were complaining for emergency line
on M85 which is under construction

I dont think M8 is that important. Of course it should be built at some point, but its not urgent by all means.

What always surprises me is that M86 dissappears south of Szombathely. It clearly should reach M70 and slovenian H7.

Important motorways left to be build are: completing M0, M4, M10, M85, and widening, M2, M15 and M70. Thats roughly about 350 kms. Thats all.

Our M44 is planned now as 2x2/3,5 lane width expressway with hard shoulders. However M85/86 have only soft shoulders, because sometimes we f*ck things up have funny little accidents in Hungary, which now it seems have been corrected.

They're probably only thinking of connecting Szombathely and Zagreb via Nagykanizsa (instead of via Lend(a)va), but many trucks drive from Slovakia to Slovenia and Italy (avoiding Austria). We only built the H7 because it's short (and because it connects Maribor and Čakovec with Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg), but it should be at least a 2-lane expressway IMO. I don't know the average speed on the road 86, I've never driven on it (except the first 2 km from the border).

What about a motorway from northwestern Hungary to Balaton? I think that would benefit tourism, but I'm not sure how problematic the roads are to Balaton. I don't recall seeing a serious proposal for a motorway from Győr to Veszprém or from Sopron to Keszthely.

If M86 goes to Szombathely wouldn`t be better to connect M86 with Austrian A2
that goes to Graz ?

guys, thx for all your support and explanations:

one question: are there any news regarding M30 to the north [Poland/Slovakia]?
as far as I remember there was something in the plans regarding connection to Slovakian R4 at the border as well bypasses of Szikszo and Forro

last year I have seen something is under construction in Miskolc North / nearby Auchan ? what's this ?

thx for info in advance & cheers from Poland :-)
