These are great news for freight traffic. I remember this segment was unpleasant to drive, especially in dense traffic (not to mention winter).

The Opel plant in Szentgotthárd may also have been a factor in choosing the route of S7.
Good points there. Thanks for your reply

There's no sense in taking the A2 if you're going to PL - the S6/S35 is much more fun and doesn't have any annoying section control on it.

If Hungary could build a motorway straight from Rajka towards the H/HR border, it could be a viable alternative. The route through Hungary at the minute is only 15 minutes longer, but the extension of the Austrian A5 will push that towards 30+ minutes faster.

The dream is for a route that goes straight through the middle of Slovakia, Hungary, and Bosnia - but that's at last 20 years away.

Planned section of M86 Levél - Csorna (You can use M15-M1-M85 towards Csorna). Csorna-Szombathely is already exist. From Szombathely to HR is the M9 (planned, 86-76-74 main roads) towards Nagykanizsa and so on.

There seems to be quite a lot of truck traffic, especially in the last picture you posted.

Where are the roundabouts? There were three roundabouts on the plans, but these three junctions are definitely not roundabouts!

It's an important truck corridor between Slovenia/Italy and Slovakia/Poland.

Hey, the plan posted here only says "level junction", nothing about roundabouts, despite the circular marking. Are there other plans with roundabouts explicitly stated?

Builders of M4 Üllö (M0)-Cegléd and M44 Tiszakürt-Kondoros just have been awarded. Construction of both roads will begin next year.

M4 -> 44 kms

M44 -> 62 kms (building of the remaining 18 kms to Békescsaba will start shortly as well)

So 2019 will be a magnificent year for Hungarian motorways.
