I don't want to criticise, jsut to ask:

For now i used both Hungarian motorways to romania, sometimes in the north, sometimes in the south. Does ist really make sense to built both, M4 and M44?

For me, the hungarian idea to save money by building the extension of M35 makes sense. Given that the eastern hungarian motorways are mostly empty, but still to connect to a romanian motorway there (which is delayed again)

With another short extension one could reach the border before satu mare. Instead they built to ukraine (maybe even twice).

So if there is more money to spend it might be good to find a additional middle path.

This is, whats refering the connection to romania.

Thinking about that the region around budapest is much more developing, one might start whith M4 progressing east.

In my view this should be priority. The M44 seems useless.

Maybe Orban has more voters in the poorer east, so around Bekesczaba

Orban set the agenda in 2014 that all county towns have to be connected on 2x2 expressways to our network in the near future. M44 will make the Hungarian network accesible for almost 150tsd people (Nagykörös, Szarvas, Szentes, Békéscsaba, Gyula etc).

I say, lets build it. Its our own money, and a road doesnt hurt anyone.

It's pretty common in most developed countries to have four-lane motorways / expressways to cities the size of Békéscsaba. As JackFrost pointed out, the regional population is fairly significant.

Well, any extension of M3 towards Ukraine is funded by EU, thats why we build it in the first place. Its a PAN European corridor towards Kiew.

Building it to the border makes only sense when the Ukrainians do their part too. Most towns and villages in this area are in the vicinity of M3 already.

Yes, without that it would only be good for PR.

And I can't highlight it enough that most of the traffic here still falls into two categories: going to Budapest from town A - going to town A from Budapest. Yes, if you are a foreigner, things like the M9 seem to be the most desired thing - but for us currently the M4 has highest priority.

The tender for the designs of widening M7 to 2x3 from Budapest till Balatonvilagos was launched today.

~75 km from Budapest
~25 km from Balatonvilagos

How about widening M1 Budapest - Tatabanya? It is always crowded there every time I drive on it...

Cheer that Budapest will host Olympia 2024, and then M1 will be widened for sure until then.

Yes, there is.

During the Ukrainian prime minister's two-day visit to Hungary (24-25 NOV, 2016) Volodymyr Groysman, and Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán signed an agreement regarding several transport issues.

This includes the refurbishment of bridges on the River Tisza, extension of the M3 motorway to the Ukrainian border by 2020, the planning and construction of the M34 express road from Vásárosnamény to Záhony and Hungary is also making EUR 50 million available for the construction of the bypass of Berehove and its connection to the HU/EU border. During the visit the border crossing-point was also agreed upon.

It would be nice to see the M86 finished at least, as it would open up a viable alternative to Croatia from the Czech Republic.

But of course, anyone that knows Hungary knows that all roads lead to Budapest. The lack of traffic is quite striking in many areas.

And more than being overcrowded, some parts are in very poor state on the right lane, I even find it dangerous because you have to slalom suddenly between potholes created by the impressive number of trucks who use this highway everyday...

If Ukrainians really construct this connecting road, it will be possible to extend the M3 all the way to the border, even if the Ukrainian connecting road won't be a motorway.

Sounds ambitious since we're basically in 2017 already. But with the ever increasing traffic, I'm all for it even if not a regular user. If it was in the UAE, it would be 2 x 5 lanes already.

If, however, large-scale repair / resurfacing works start on a two-lane M1, then I will really be worried about traffic flow ...

Yes, its needs to be widened. Until then, maybe we could try to open the shoulders for traffic temporarily when traffic is huge like they do it Germany:

Or would that be too risky?
