There will be a section after the Megyeri-bridge which is 8 Km with 2 tunnels(2+3 Km long) and 2 viaducts aswell. The next section of M0 will be 18 Km long with a tunnel of 5-10 Km long near Budakeszi, Biatorbágy. All of this will be 2x2

In my opinion it should be 2x3 lanes , because many would try to drive through that part in order to gain access into m1 towards Austria and also because of the geomorphology there and the density of population there and the lack of big highways there except the m0 . Not to mention the esztergom

First of all, truck traffic would be banned from this part of M0. This means if a truck heads from M1 towards M2, it would had to go 75 kms eastbound to reach M2.

I think 2x2 is enough, and I would be happy if they stopped messing around and start building it finally.

Esztergom will be connected on a separate expressway starting from M1.

Why is that? Seems rather stupid to me.

I had the same thougt. Of course the terrain is complicated. So its possible to save money, if you can allow steeper slopes, which are usable for cars, but not for trucks. But a huge amount would be tunnels. Once bored, there is no change possible.

The only thing, which i could expect to be possible is the security reason. The regulation for trucks with dangerous goods requires much more effort for tunnels. This is something which could be upgraded later.

But the Budapest ring is leading so far to the southeast, that much cars use the way through the city outside rush hours. This would easily change once the northwest sector is finished.
But for trucks a effective Ban is needed. Otherwise nobody would obey the law to not use a motorway which is more than half shorter.

I can't imagine any good explanation for this decision. But i wait calling it stupid, because i don't know all the facts yet.

But you might remember the decission to save some 3% of money at the M85/M86 expressway by downgrading the emergency line to gravel. And there is no I/C to M1. So stupid decisions are happening.

Why would you pollute the Buda mountains with truck traffic and put traffic there, when you have an alternative route?

NOTHING NEW IN 2017?

Based on all the news posted here, am I correct that no new motorways will be completed in 2017 whatsoever? Thanks.

Only 1,7 kms of M30. And I hope that maybe M85 Csorna bypass will also be ready end of this year.

Heres a list of the deadlines.

Well maybe because having the trucks drive a MASSIVE detour increases the emissions by a lot?

That doesnt mean an area with a lot of recreation and tourist hot-spots should be polluted with emission and noise too. There is a nice 2x3 wide piece of road between M1 and M5, and the M31 further north which serves the direction towards M3 perfectly.

And I might add, that eastwards in direction M1-M3/M31 the difference will not be longer than about 15 kms, than going westbound.

M0 east: M1 -> M3/M31: 69 km
M0 west: M1 -> M3/M31: 56 km (estimated)

So not a big deal for trucks.

If we assume a transit volume on that relation of 5000 trucks per day and direction, thats about 50 million additional vehiclekilometers per year. And for that they wanna spend loads of money?

Google Maps update?

M86 is still nowhere to be seen on Google Maps! How frequently do they do an update?

The updates are few and far between last time.
You have to wait patiently....

In five sections of M1 is speed limit changed to 100 km/h because of bad surface quality. They are between Herceghalom - Tatabánya and have a length of 1-4 km each.

Construction works for widening the M2 expressway to 2x2 are scheduled to start in mid-April, and should be ready in 2019.

The length to be widened is about 13,4 kms, out of the total 19,6 kms between Budapest and Vác. Speed limit will be 110 km/h.
