Puregold nets P469M in Q1

MANILA, Philippines—Retailer Puregold Price Club grew its first-quarter net profit by 24.5 percent to P469 million year on year as robust domestic consumer spending and new store openings sustained a double-digit growth in sales.
In a regulatory filing, Puregold reported that its net sales for the three-month period had gone up by 30.3 percent year on year to P10.74 billion largely due to the increase in turnover as a result of the opening of new stores in the latter three quarters of last year.
Cost of sales amounted to P8.99 billion, up 30.3 percent year on year, due to the opening of new stores, which was partially offset by an increase in conditional discounts from the company’s suppliers.
Puregold’s gross profit increased by 31.9 percent to P1.74 billion from a year ago.
The company, which is led by the family of Filipino-Chinese businessman Lucio Co, had a total of 101 stores in operation, including 62 hypermarkets, 28 supermarkets and 11 discounters as of end-March.
The retailer’s capital spending for this year is budgeted at P3 billion. The plan is to open 25 new stores, including the first hypermarket that was already opened in La Trinidad, Benguet, in January. Continuing suppliers’ support arising from scale of operations is seen to contribute to the sustainability of margins. Puregold aims to maintain gross and net profit margins at least 14 percent and 4 percent, respectively, this year.
With its forthcoming acquisition of the S&R membership shopping business for P16.5 billion, Puregold also hopes to address the upscale retail market. This transaction is seen boosting its net profits by 4-7 percent. Before the S&R takeover plan was finalized, Puregold was aiming for a net profit of P1.94 billion this year equivalent to earnings per share of P0.97.
S&R was set up in 2000 in partnership with Price Smart of the US and acquired by the Co family in 2006. It is operated by Kareila Management Corp. S&R operates six stores located at Bonifacio Global City; Congressional Ave. in Quezon City; Alabang, Muntinlupa; Aseana business park in Baclaran; San Fernando in Pampanga; and Mandaue City in Cebu.

Binili na pala ng Puregold ang S&R (parang SM lang sa Makro), and outside Manila, Cebu at Pampanga lang ang meron nito...

slow news and thread today huh

Sorry, but I found this video boring and way too cliche-ic (a scarf-wearing gay culturati, anyone?). Kind of felt like a lame PCSO ad. Let's not even talk about the horrible music. I think the video missed the dynamism of the city. There was hardly anything dramatic or compelling in it, unless your target demographic is the 60s-bracket. People at the city's tourism office should spend a few minutes browsing the excellent tourism ads of South Korea before they waste people's taxes with garbage like this. (And for the record, it's "world-class," not "worldclass.")

I think it's better if this lot is cordoned off and converted into a lush mini-forest. Dust makes me sick, but the idea of turning this huge piece of land into a parking lot or transport terminal is even more sickening. We have more than enough urban atrocities as it were, so it's high time we allot more green spaces for this city's inhabitants. Also, I'm not sure if the buses parking there right now are even allowed to be there in the first place. Isn't Bayanihan Park huge enough to accommodate those shuttles? Or as an alternative, SM Clark's parking lot at the back is almost always empty, so there's a thought.

Just to put things in perspective, Fairview and San Jose del Monte are not prime residential choices. For the writer to suggest that both places should command higher real estate value than Pampanga is myopic and twisted. For one, traffic in both areas is just way too horrible. Two, the roads leading to these places are in a very bad state. Three, the state of security in these areas (specially Fairview) is awful. No one in his right mind would invest in Fairview, believe me.

this actually put a smile on my face. kudos! it's not the best, but it's the best so far from what Angeles government has released. i wish though the emerging evening skyline of Angeles, especially in Don Juico Ave. area was shown in the entertainment part of the video. the entertainment scenes kasi were mostly closeup shots, and I didn't get the feel that Angeles is a rising Entertainment Empire. tama rin sinabi ni monster_crunch, yung hinahanap ko yung dynamism and energy which is the feel of Angeles

For the longest time, ive been wondering kung ano ang part na to ng Mabalacat, ang laki laki, pero wala kahit ano, sa palagay ko isa syang napakalawak na talahiban amf, maximize the space, maglagay ng daan, gawing residential, industrial or business district, Mayor gising amf
yes, may kakiputan pa rin naman ang Magalang, and it still has that laidback feel. pero i'd pick Magalang over Mexico or Floridablanca anytime. it has a lot of important areas such as the PAC (soon to be a state university) and a chunk of Mt. Arayat.

Yung inencircle mong part ng Mabalacat, yup, talahiban yun, mabuhangin na talahiban. yun yung desolate distrcit ng Mabalacat na makikita mo kapag pupunta ka ng Bamban.

DoTC may compel airlines to reduce NAIA flights

The government may force local airlines to reduce flights out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), hoping to decongest the country’s premiere international gateway.
According to Transportation Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, discussions are now being held with local airlines to find a quick solution to congestion at NAIA, which causes frequent flight delays affecting thousands of passengers daily.
“Right now, we are still talking to them, to get them to cut their flights voluntarily, before we bring the heavy hand of government down on them,” Roxas said over the weekend.
Based on the Department of Transportation and Communications’ (DoTC) own observations, he said, airlines appear to be deliberately scheduling their trips during peak hours, knowing full well that NAIA will not be able to accommodate all these flights.
“At any given time, NAIA can only have 36 take-offs and landings because of the limited runway space. But the way flights are being scheduled, there will really be delays,” Roxas said.
Today, as much as 45 take-offs and landings are scheduled per hour at NAIA during peak times, he added, leading to delays that can affect all flights for the rest of the day.
“If they don’t do it voluntarily, government will force them to stop excess flights,” he said.
Since assuming office last year, Roxas has been studying the possibilities of adding another runway at NAIA.
“Unfortunately, if we follow international aviation standards, another runway at NAIA will not be possible because there’s no more space,” he said.
“We’ll have to reclaim land, or buy the properties at nearby residential areas. We would even have to take down the Baclaran Church to add a new runway, which is not possible.”
The more long-term solution, he said, was the complete transfer of NAIA operations to Clark Freeport in Pampanga. He said space at the former United States military base was more than enough to meet current and future demand for flights to the Philippines.
But this project may face delays as well. He said development of the new NAIA in Clark would not begin until the government concludes negotiations for a revised NorthRail contract with China.
The previous deal with China to finance the construction of a train line from Manila to Pampanga, approved during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, has been canceled by the government.
The DoTC is now working on a new deal to replace the allegedly anomalous contract.

source

Henaku, kung ka alyado pa rin ni Gloria Labandera ang nanalong presidente ngayon e malamang natuloy na yang PNR na yan, "allegedly anomalous contract" my ass, they just want to look like heroes stopping corruption but in reality, they're just making things more complicated, i'll bet tapos na ang term ni Pnoy but the construction hasn't even started....they will able to finalize the new contract tho but pag nanalo si Binay, for sure, sa shredder nanaman ang bagsak nun, politics 101

anyway natawa naman ako sa isang nabasa ko, sa Singapore, Hongkong, Japan, Korea, seaside ang airport nila, sa Pinas lang ata may International Airport sa loob ng subdivisions

la na talaga, inde na maisasalba yan, no room for expansion

Cnxa pero sa tingin ko yung boundary is not at 5th street since Lakandula is still part of Mabalacat... so 2nd or 3rd street is already Mabalacat area...yung 1st street I think is already Balibago area... So drawing the line... I think that whole area of SM Annex is part of Mabalacat Area./

I even think that the present SM Clark has parts already belonging to Mabalacat.

Could it be ay yung annex itself ay nasa border ng Angeles at Mabalacat, not solely in Mabalacat?

I guess I need to research more.

I shall explain... this was vert last minute, not really a priority, isiningit lang namin. This is also just a TEASER which was presented to the stakeholders and not the actual tourism video. This video was never intended to be released in public, but Mayor wants it to be, so we must follow. I wanted to include the skyline, pero wala na talagang time... we have a farm in the mountains of Bamban where you will see the entirety of Metro Pampanga. That's where I intend to shoot the skyline for the real Tourism Video.

I also agree, the video lacks dynamism, maybe because of the music. But I think it's better than polosa. The quality most of us are expecting after being bombarded with Malaysia Truly Asia and Infinitely Yours, Seoul, is really difficult to achieve in Angeles City since there is no budget provision for an ad agency for now. We are doing our best to convince the higher ups to do so. This video was produced at no cost to the people of Angeles. Even the camera is my personal camera. We ask the people to be patient. We WILL produce a good tourism video.

5th street is definitely part Balibago already! During Elections, it's Angeles politician fever there!

I hope so too. but now the priority is reclaiming the ROW. DPWH's greatest headaches are the permanent obstacles built by the establishments. I guess once that's done the wires would follow.

You may have noticed Chick Boy in Sto. Rosario, it's design features stone works reminiscent of the bahay na bato. That's actually the soft rule now (not yet an ordinance). All new structures to be built along Sto. Rosario must adhere to the design of Old Culiat.
