Thought id check this out, all the times are straight from each city’s transport website so if they’re wrong or have changed say so!

LAST SUBURBAN TRAINS LEAVING THE CITY AFTER A BIG SATURDAY NIGHT OUT~ all aboard!

SYDNEY Departing Central Station 1.45am (Hornsby line)
BRISBANE Departing Roma St Station 1.23am (Ferny Grove line)
PERTH Departing Perth Station 2.00am (All lines)
ADELAIDE Departing Adelaide Station 12.37am (Outer Harbor line)
MELBOURNE Departing Flinders St Station 1.13am (Sydenham line)

I thought Sydney and Melbourne would have later trains leaving! Or are there trams + buses to make up for it?

Sydney has nightride buses all night till the trains restart at about 4.30, they follow the same routes as the trains (almost). Generally they stop at each station or close as practical. You can use your tickets. I know if you want to be a shit, you can order a taxi to take you to waverton and wollstonecraft stations, as the bus takes the pacific highway, so rather than walk down the hill, you can demand a free taxi paid for by cityrail.

The last time i caught a nightride bus I was living in wollstonecraft and it was a horrific 15 minutes. I went green, lost the plot and jumped off the bus when the door opened, making a mess on the roadside.

The nightride buses are in addition to the normal buses that run as part of STA.

NightRide Bus Services

Most trains do not operate between midnight and 4.30am. For your convenience a special NightRide bus service is available between these hours. You can use any valid CityRail return, pensioner, weekly or longer ticket or you can purchase a NightRide bus ticket from the driver. Single tickets are not valid on NightRide services.

To avoid delays we ask that you have the correct fare if purchasing the bus ticket. All buses have radio contact with taxi operators and a taxi can be requested to meet you at your destination.

Note: NightRide bus times may change from time to time to meet customer needs. For inquiries regarding NightRide services, call the Transport Infoline on 131 500.

Sections Adult fare Concession fare
Up to 3 sections $3.70 $1.90
4 to 6 sections $5.70 $2.90
7+ sections $7.50 $3.70

Brisbane has nightlink on Friday and Saturday Nights / Saturday and Sunday mornings
They operate hourly and go down 3 train lines and quite a few bus routes.

You said saturday nights, so Nightlink does apply. Therefore the last train is not at 1:23am.

We're trialling nightrider buses I think.

Trains during summer run till 3am and the first one on a Sunday morning runs at 7am. Spent plenty of 6am-7am stints on tthe train station
