3 floors collapsed at the Fontainebleau parking garage today.
http://klas-tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=6892276

No injuries.

Second accident in less than a week. One of the workers from the earlier accident died at the hospital.

This is a Turnberry project and I remember they had a floor collapse on Turnberry Towers.

Quote:
Fontainebleau released the following statement:

During the course of construction this morning, a pre-cast twin tee, an isolated part of the Fontainebleau garage collapsed, causing a domino effect before stopping at a concrete slab several levels below. We are thankful to be able to report that no injuries were incurred. We have suspended all construction on and within the garage complex until a full investigation of the cause of the accident can be completed.

yikes another one? That's a bit too much in such a short amount of time for one project, thank god there are no deaths this time.

To be fair, workers have died CityCenter (prefab concrete wall fell on them) and Trump (guy fell down elevator shaft) too.

Just saw the 4pm news. Looking at it again, it does seem only Turnberry projects have had these types of major structural collapses. The first incident a few days ago was because of workers falling.

In this one, people heard a massive rumble when it collapsed. Considering the very wide area several floors tall that just happened to not have any workers there is simply a miracle.

The collapse back when Turnberry Tower 1 was going up also involved a whole floor and had amazingly no deaths too.

Just to repost the photo on the last page I took of the garage structure where this happened.

I am glad that they changed the design, the new design looks better. My complaining worked.

Looking more carefully at the floor plan, I am happy to see that they are not forcing pedestrians to walk through a mall to get to the casino, like Wynn, Bellagio, Caesars and Echelon. I have a feeling that this will become one of my favorite resorts.

New Construction Photos

A few pictures taken from the 34th floor of Turnberry Place. The first shows progress on the main tower. The second shows the parking garage and the convention center. It looks like they have cleaned up after the collapse. The last picture shows how close the convention center access road passes by the Turnberry swimming pool. Nothing like sun, water and diesel fumes.

Wow, great angle on those shots. Really gives a different perspective. They've really excavated that front part along the Strip. You can see a couple new beams for the extra height they are adding to the convention side. Those sure are some huge mobile cranes. I thought I heard them say that the loading dock for the conventions will be up a ramp a couple floors above grade, similar to Mandalay Bay. Seems that would even be visible from the Turnberry pool plus the diesel fumes. Wonder how they will abate that, with a wall or something? Or will the loading dock actually be underground? I know there's parking down there.

Awesome shots. Thanks so much. Hard to believe that back building is going to be over 20 stories tall. Across the entire length of the lot. Nuts. And the front so close to Las Vegas Blvd. From a distance as you drive between Fontainebleau and Sky, it will look like a choke point. 500 feet high on one side and 725 feet high on the other and both only 60 - 100 feet off the sidewalk.

The skyscrapers are actually hotels and the casinos are just on the bottoms. I like them, because the public is invited to go in and enjoy the amenities, so you get to see what the building is really like. Whereas most tall buildings in most cities are private or have a very limited amount of public access.

you have just summed up the allure of las vegas for the tourist perfectly. Whereas the majority of buildings in cities like LA, New York, Chicago, Paris, London etc are not accessible to members of the general public, nearly 95% of buildings on the Strip and Fremont Street are. Chicago Spire will be nice to look at and all just like the Chrysler Building is, but most of us will ever get inside.

Imagine if Steve Wynn never let us inside his hotel or only allowed us inside his car dealership, i don't think too many people would be coming back

I'm really a bit surprised by the relatively small footprint of this buildings (at least compared to other Las Vegas casinos.
