This is a strange tower . Great height, but unusual design!

Indeed we should fear anything new or unconventional.

Parzival,
I agree. Although, this is a great way to mark the entrance to Hylle (as a new area), Malmö as a city, and Sweden as a country.

sjon,
To my knowledge, there isn't a taller residential building in Europe (outside Russia) than the Turning Torso (yes, also in Malmö ), at 190 meters.

It wont be tallest in Europe, since by the time it's constructed, another residential located in Wroclaw, called Sky Tower (220 meters till roof), will be already erected.

Groundworks have already begun

Alright, I wasn't aware of the Wroclaw project. Too bad there isn't a search feature at SSP where you can filter the searches with building use.

Anyway, I guess we'd have to change it to the "tallest residential in western Europe".

Great tower for Malmo, could fit perfectly in Rotterdam centre, though. I like the simple, elegant design.

Exactly, this construction will be all about semiotics.

Now let's hope they will construct 1-2 skyscrapers more right there in the middle between TT and future MT. That would be great and enhance the skyline.

Chilenofuturista,
Well, I'm not familiar with the word "semiotics". What I meant is that the Malmö Tower really will mark the entrance of the city of Malmö, as well as Sweden (it's pretty much the first thing you'll see when you enter Sweden from the Öresund Bridge) - and not only a landmark and entrance point of Hyllie as an area.

...And that's what I meant.
For your information I didn't write anything bad about its location or its implications for Hyllie, Malmö and Sweden as a whole.

Semiotics

1. The study of signs and symbols as elements of communicative behavior; the analysis of systems of communication, as language, gestures, or clothing.
2. A general theory of signs and symbolism, usually divided into the branches of pragmatics, semantics, and syntactics.

Cheers.

Nice design, but since it's a very heigh tower in a lowrise area close to big open water, there will be problems with wind at ground level I guess... We have the same problem in Rotterdam, further from sea.

What I'm trying to say is that MT will become Malmö's own iconic building.

Thanks for the clarification, Chileno.

golov,
Well, yeah pretty much! But, at the pace Russia is constructing towers taller than anything else in Europe, it's just impossible for us to keep up - hence we need a "competition" of our own.

Tallest in Europe is going to be built in Spain (outside of Russia, Sweden, Poland, UK, France, Holland, Ukraine.............)

43 storeys, 158 meters
