![]() I attended an expert lecture regarding cable-stayed bridges at CEPT about 15 days ago. They had invited the structural consultants of this bridge. They are hoping to open the bridge for traffic by June 2012. The decision to make this bridge cable-stayed is purely for aesthetic purposes only. The govt was insistent upon a cable-stayed bridge when the thing could have been done by the normal method. |

Those media person showing only injustice to Godhra Riots and says that Gujarat has not changed in last decade should see this thread and realize that in last decade Gujarat as developed in all the phases. Everybody has dark past but after every dark there is light. Godhra Incident is like dark past of Gujarat and every state has such past and much more than ours.
Every time when Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai or any other Indian city gets even a single new bridge then also national media shows it but when we got BRTS and won World's Best Sustainable Transport Award then also they are not interested. We have first or second riverfront in the country, best transport system in the world, best city in the country, pioneering renewable energy, have more efficient and effective innovative ideas than other states and much more but than also they cant see it. Media only see the slums of Ahmedabad and other areas in the state for reporting from Gujarat. They never shoot on the riverfront, near BRTS system, C.G Road, Kankaria or any other good location but they only selects the slums and says that all this is drama and government is making fool to the peoples on the name of development. Even local media don't report to the development projects. And peoples think that media is doing justice

There is always a bad side and a good side to these. Bad side being that you get bad reputation in the limelight, good side being the local authorities will open their eyes. For eg. look at dharavi, before slumdog i doubt they (municipal corp) were going to develop that area or maybe they did but sometime later in the future. Just after the movie and all the media attention look what is happening now. Sometimes its good that someone points out your bad side so that you know what to fix even though it sounds rude. About the riots I still believe that we have not changed personally and emotionally. People want to move on but cannot move on mostly due to all the media bothering them and also due to the vast differences that exist in Gujarat till today. Tell me one thing can a muslim person buy a house/appartment in a hindu dominated area. I know that in some cases they can but then there is this feeling among the neighbors that this man shouldnt be staying here. Why such feelings towards someone just cuz of their religion and its not just limited to people in gujarat, it applies to me too. Anyway i believe that this discussion might be good for the discussion thread instead of this thread!

Yes, they are fighting a losing battle in Gujarat. It is better for them to accept that they are not going to win anytime soon. Such feeble attempts are not going to bother Modi.

Friend, the cables are stretched and anchored at both its ends. Also maintenance team check the tension in cable wires in regular intervals to ensure that they remain stretched. It is the tension in the cables that is responsible for the strength of the bridge. As in case of Milau Bridge in France.

New bridge on Narmada near Bharuch
Bharuch: The work to build a new bridge near Sardar Bridge on National Highway 8 near Bharuch will begin from May 2012. The Rs 473 crore bridge will be ready over the next two years, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, political advisor to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, said here on Saturday. Commuters travelling between Surat and Vadodara by road have to cross Narmada river. Currently, there are two bridges — Golden and Sardar — that connect central and south Gujarat by road. Sardar Bridge is only open to heavy vehicles and Golden Bridge is meant for light ones. Yet traffic jam is a routine affair here. Patel called a meeting of senior officials of NHAI and state roads and building (R&B) officials during his visit to Ankleshwar on Thursday. |
