Of course the architects denied any errors and most time since may was bashing between HochTief - Herzog & de Meuron - and the city who is responsible for this and who is gonna pay for the delay. At least HochTief was allowed to lower the roof. It is not visible on the pictures.

Please finish it and then then we can all forget about the price and all the problems.

They adjusted the architect's fee in a revised contract.

It looks awesome in the sunset. Even if the building is uncredible expensive it is worth each Cent.

New shock for Hamburg. EP costings may rise to 1 billion Euro
Quote:
http://www.mopo.de/nachrichten/cdu-m...,22028816.html

translation of the main facts of article:

opposition politician claims the major of Hamburg lied to the people about the total costings of the concert hall. Not long ago the city set an agreement with the construction company Hoch-Tief to finalise this building for 575 Million Euro to 2016. But in this amount many assets are missing. Assets the city already payed and still have to pay.
"If you wanna tell the truth you have to inform the public about the total costings, not only some parts of it" the politician Andreas Wankum complains. He is afraid, the people of Hamburg will hate this building even more, if they are informed about the truth only in slices.
Wankum is member of the investigation comitee. He prensented numbers, that to the 575 Million Euro following assets are excluded
Extra payments to the Architect Herzog and de Meuron (56 Million €)
Already payed assets to Hocht-Tief (26 Million)
ReGe (12,5 Million)
other advisers 4 Million)
also excludet are value added taxes and other already payed assets for bridge finances.

His amount is 850 Million Euro

But he continues: "Many future costings are not calculated yet (faclity management, fire protection and the ReGe has to be paid in future as well, planing permission and so on), the total costings may be 900 Million Euro or even 1 Billion

In a local Television talkshow the senator of culture Barbara Kissler refused to answer the moderators question about total costings of the Ep and attackts Andeas Wankum the set up horror scenarios

I strongly disagree. This is just a prestige building, they could´ve used the money this will cost much better.

by me. Philharmonic hall is on the right side of the picture. No other building in Hamburg seems to come close to its mass

I am not a lover of contemporary architecture in general as so many post WW2 buildings have ruined once harmonious and beautiful city centres but occasionally we get a really decent design, eg. the now iconic Sydney Opera House and I think this new Philharmonic Hall is an interesting building in as much as the architects have tried to be innovative without descending to some freak design as has been the case too often recently. I think the finished product will look good and will be an asset to Hamburg. It is far superior to some of the cheap trash that has been built in some U.K. cities such as Manchester and Birmingham over the past few decades.

^ I agree completely!

It may have gone out of control, budget-wise, but at least in the end we'll have a rare monument of timeless beauty to show of our generation. Architecture has become more and more a disposable object to be removed again after 30 years. It has lost it's monumental stature. In my opinion projects like this - how prestige driven or decadent they may be - are priceless.

It is big but on that pic you must know where to look to find it.

btw, finishing only in 2017 is ridiculous.

one more from sky... (I think you can see it better here). My personal opinion is, that there are some other buildings missing that balance the mass of the EP a bit out.

and 3 from yesterday

I just found a picture how this place looked like in 1875. The church-like building is exactly same location as the EP

I had to register myself, so I can write:

It must be too painful for Hamburg's purse... Even Copenhagen Opera House and Oslo Opera House are too cheap in comparison
