It really does. Haven't been over there in almost two years, Looking forward to checking it out whenever I'm over that way.

I think the Alfond hotel project is topped off now next to Regent Residences.

I like it, I like everything I see winter park doing right now. Minor league stadiums can be popular, the Daytona cubs and Jacksonville sun both draw well, the threshers are known for pulling a decent crowd and having a cool bar area in the outfield, I've heard they have even ha it open on days when games aren't going on

Plans for baseball stadium in Winter Park's Ravaudage development fall apart

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...,1813128.story

I can't say I'm too disappointed about this - I much prefer the Alfond expansion as it preserves a pedestrian-friendly element. I wonder with the kerfuffle going on between the Rollins faculty and their president if much is going to happen on this for a while, though. Of course, the faculty seems to think the College is more interested in development than education, so who knows?

1. Winter Park
Beverly Hills of the East Coast. Ultimate prep town. Swarmed by rich kids, rich people, expensive stores, über-ridiculous cars, and whatnot.
People in Winter Park are so rich, they use $100 bills to wipe the windshields of their Hummers.

2. Winter Park
Playground and resting place for Orlando's old money. 1.5$ million an acre, brick streets, big trees and lots of lakes. Home of the racquet club, Park Avenue, Concours de Elegance, and the country clubby Rollins College. Laid back as only a complete lack of financial concern could bring.
A guy on Winter Park Crew is hosting a party, tell everyone to get in their air nautiques and head over to his million dollar boathouse, and remember it's the one on the right, the one on the left is his dad's...

And I lived there for 7 years . . . .

Back when Lisa Birnbach published The Official Preppy Handbook in 1980, I had just moved to Nashville and my serious Southern prepster friends at Vandy were constantly pooh-poohing Orlando for being woefully untasteful. Imagine my delight at seeing WP included in the book. My Lacoste crocodile's mouth widened in a huge grin.

I was wondering why they would ditch the existing stadium to go out there too. I like where the current stadium is and the "feel" it has.

Interesting comparison.

Like Beverly Hills, Winter Park is probably Orlando metro's best shot at developing an upscale shopping street / district akin to Rodeo / Wilshire. Unlike Beverly Hills, Winter Park residents would never let that happen.
