MSA to surpass 4 million by 2010?

So the next official government census takes place in 3 years. Do you think the metro area can hit 4 million by then? Can't you just see it... Bond?

I think Seattle's at about 3.8-3.9m right now.

Not 100% about this, but I believe Sea-Tac-Everett-Bremerton is designated as a CMSA, not MSA. (Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area). In that case, it would include King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Kitsap counties, and will without a doubt be over 4 mill. in 2010. Probably is already.

So would you consider the MSA just to be Seattle-Bellevue? Or Seattle-Tacoma?

Hmmm...the feds have different definitions on this. I believe the old Seattle MSA was Seattle-Everett (King/Snohomish), but was impractical as a serious definition of the metro area. So the CMSA was designated as the true definition of the metro. So the 4 million figure seems to be about right.

As a media market, which coincides with CMSA figures, Seattle is ranked #13 in the country. Projections will have it at around 5 million by 2020, but probably not gaining rank becuase most of the cities ahead are also growing.

I believe that Seattle metro area will reach about four million people by 2010. I read yesterday at Seattle Times Newspaper that discussed about transportation. He said that Seattle metro area is adding a million residents every decade for now.

Ehhhh...well the newspapers and such never use the CSA figures. The Seattle CSA will probably pass 4 million by next year...

April 1, 2000 CMSA was 3,554,760. The latest CMSA is 3,919,000 so far, that's probably 2005 or 2006 stats. I doubt they added 1 million more in the metro area in a decade, that's the whole Washington state that added that many people. The metro area adds half as many as the state adds people. 1990-2000 CMSA added about 584,432 additional residents.

Realistically, the MSA area is only 2.4 million for 2000 data. It's probably roughly 2.6 million now.

It would be seriously shocking if we grew 25% in any decade from now on. This region isn't set up for that kind of growth, with infrastructure and land being the biggest limiting factors.

The million figure would be for the whole state. That's realistic. I think the most we've ever done in a decade is just under a million.
