You can thank Miami Beach commissioners for the design of Continuum I and II. Originally, the parcel where Continuum I and II are now was zoned for twin 60 story 600 foot towers. Then after a whole bunch of litigation these compromise towers were built. They aren't bad considering now nothing can be built on the Beach over 200 feet tall.

Double check your facts. Portofino Tower was completed in 1997 and nothing happened on that land to the east of South Pointe Tower for at least 3 years after that.
