Hehehe

If this tower gets chopped down in height, it will be useless.

I wish Trump would build something in Australia. I love the largeness of his developments.

Maybe he will... Never know... Like no one in Seattle would think Donald Trump would come along and build his tower here... He shocked entire city of Seattle including me. It could happen same thing to your country too.

The project has indeed been severly reduced in height. It, sadly, does not belong here anymore.

Can somebody close this thread?

Looks like a great tower, it doesn't really fit with the other towers, but it's still an excellent piece of architecture.

the thread name is correct, the final OMB decision allows this building to reach 70 stories. That is pretty final, it's not likely to change. But i belive they were shooting higher? the toronto planning department i belive originally caped it at 60-65 floors, something like that. There was a rivelry between this tower and stinson's proposed sapphire tower, of which he was proposing 80 stories, that has also been severely cut down *sigh* oh well... one day!

Yes. The building is now planned to be 57-storeys. There are still a few design details to finalize, but that's where we are currently at.

There were a number of reasons why this came about, the most important being related to financing, construction start and an expected completion date window that must be met for purchasers. The bottom line is, with the financing agreement in place, the building starts construction and everyone wins. Without it... it remains a parking lot for a while longer.

In regards to deposits being held for 5-6 years? Umm, no. Sales started in Sept 2004. Not prior. We've sold over $250 million to date. Not exactly something to sneeze at. And sales are ongoing... and have had a little bump thanks to the financing announcement. Everyone seems to forget, that without Trump Toronto, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seaons, Shangri-La, etc., were apprehensive about entering the high-end luxury market in Toronto. And following our sucess, they are now moving forward with their own projects. Everyone thought we were crazy to charge $1,000-a sq. ft. And we proved it could be done. So our competition has followed suite. We were also the first to market, sell and now, soon build luxury hotel condominiums on this scale. This building is full of "firsts" for the Toronto market. So, of course, it hasn't gone as smoothly or quickly as other less-ambitious projects. But, it will be built!

As it stands right now, the building will be about 919 ft / 280.1 m. So, it will be a little bit shorter, about 145 ft (vs. the 70-storey tower). If I recall, the 68-storey version was 1,017 ft. So, we're losing about 100-ft from the original 68-storey version of the tower. Which I believe is still taller than the original 60/65-storey Ritz version of the tower. No, we won't be cracking the 1,000-ft. barrier, but a 900-ft building is still pretty significant--in any city!

Regarding the number of units. We're really not losing much per se, as we added a few units per floor in some of the hotel levels and residential levels when we redesigned the building to be 70-stories. Essentially, we will have about the same # of suites when the project was originally 68-stories.

Floors: 68 / 70 / 57

Hotel suites 265 / 291 / 261
Resid suites 109 / 147 / 118
Total suites 374 / 438 / 379

It's not as bad as it all sounds here. Do we wish we were building 70-stories. Of course. But bottom-line, we are thrilled that the building is moving forward with construction and look forward to seeing many of you there at the groundbreaking later this year.
