You are correct and I agree on a lot of that.

However, just to be clear, I did not say connect at some point - I said put a restaurant on the part that inexplicably goes out into the water rendering it hot, wet, and not a place to put retail/dining.

I have said many times, I like the Riverwalk idea. I think the execution is not so good and i think all the hype the city gives it, going back to iorio, if not before, is silly.

Inexplicably? How else would you like to do it? CapTrust wasn't going to shave off part of their building for the Riverwalk. They also already generously gave the easement for the former Trump lot.

They don't have to. Walk through their parking to the back of the building some time. They have a little stair and seating area right on the river (I guess it is their smoking area). Could have gone right down that. No need to go out in the water. That was the designer's gimmick for the whole project, but it is not very practical.

In part of it yes there would be room if CapTrust decided to give away one of their building amenities. But their patio does not extend the whole way, you'd also have to go through the garage.

Also, how would you propose getting around the bridges?

if you walk on the river back there, it is fairly obvious - you just fill in a small space and then you are giving their building an amenity, not taking it away. It has nothing to do with the garage.

The bridges are an issue but the design is decidedly not elegant. If you have to go out into the water, it should be as limited as possible. Do as many as the Franklin Street bridge or as close to it as possible.

I'll take more pictures next time I'm there, but you would definitely have to go into the garage. It's also private property, so it really is not up to anyone other than the property owner and the city. They apparently did not want to have the Riverwalk run through their building and thus it does not. Similarly, it won't go through the Sheraton. I can't say I blame them either.

I saw this in the Azure Magazine:

Thought something like it might be a nice addition to the Riverwalk. They could install a couple at different locations to overlook the water. BB Arhitekti designed it for Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Umm only open 11am-2pm and only Monday-Friday?? Now anything is better than what we have currently, but the whats with the hours? Hopefully they are testing the waters and will eventually expand those to meet demand. Otherwise it just sounds like a restaurant that's meant for convention goers and not so much the general public.

I relieve they are testing the waters similar to what they did with food trucks at the sail last month. But between the restaurant with the swanky new chairs and the food trucks it seems the City is focused on experimenting on how to make the convention center more lively in general.

The pavilion bar seems to be doing quite well, so it's great to see their continued tweaking.
