Isn't he a long shot for the Asian cup? Currently there's a real lack of defenders in the Socceroos.
Just out of curiousity, who do you guys think is the next big Socceroo, that is an under-25 one? Viduka is probably in his prime now, it can't last long, Neill is unfortunately wallowing in a rubbish team, Kewell we all know how good he was but we also know how injured he is now.

You missed out Carl Valeri who plays for Grosseto in Serie C1 in Italy. He is on loan from Inter Milan though. Good little player.

Can't you soccer guys have one thread for all your discussion, like the NRL and AFL threads. Seriously.

The world game probably has in excess of 1000 professional clubs world wide, playing in over 100 leagues, and the sport itself has over 200 national teams playing international games as well. |

Looks who's baaaack........
![]() http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/50989...till-cool.aspx Kewell Still Cool May 1 2007 10:12 Australia’s most gifted-player has made his comeback, and he’s done it with trademark style. Kewell’s long-awaited return to action has ended in jubilation after the Liverpool winger starred in Liverpool Reserves' 3-1 win over Everton Reserves at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground overnight. Famously, Kewell has not played since scoring the equaliser against Croatia to send Australia into the knockout rounds of the World Cup. After starting on the bench, Kewell entered the fray on 55 minutes, and after just five minutes beat two defenders before setting up striker Craig Lindfield for a simple tap-in finish. Kewell’s impact has been described as “magical” but he was not satisfied with just one mazy run. A second goal beckoned after Kewell again set up another likely goal. Kewell’s trickery put 19-year-old midfielder Paul Anderson through, but his shot was saved by Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy. Kewell is not in the reckoning to make Liverpool’s first team for the Champions League tie against Chelsea tomorrow morning Australian time, and Rafa Benitez has remained tight-lipped on when his number seven will return to English Premiership action. |

Socceroos In Europe
Hi guys
Thought i'd also mention Kaz Patafta he plays for Benfica in Portugal, also i beleive David williams is in denmark with bronby and then Mile Sterjovski and Scott chipperfield at Basel. Theres also James Wesolowski and Patrick Kisnorbo at Leicester in the championship. I've also heard that yound Middlesborough Striker Ryhs Williams has high wraps. However it seems he may have already decided to play for Wales even though he apperently didn't know he had Welsh Ancestry (go Figure) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ls/6332385.stm theres a whole list of Aussies Abroad at the below link http://www.theworldgame.com.au/aussi...?pid=aus&cid=6 In my opinion the next great Defender for the Socceroos will be Matthew Spiranovic. I've seen him play a few game for nurnberg and he looks great. Also Dario Vidosic hes just such a natural goal scorer. Both players were good enough for the Croatian national team to try to poach them to play for them but they have both pledged to play for the Socceroos. So fingers crossed we will see those guys figure more in the socceroos in the coming years. What do you guys think

I forgot about James Troisi at Newcastle United as well.
I think Vidosic will be great in years to come, haven't seen Spiranovic play, but to have the Croats chasing him as much as they did, he's gotta be pretty good.
