Land between Dockweiler Beach and LAX

What is it for? And why is it so nicely roaded?

Its used to be a neighborhood, I believe the city paid off the home owners. Also I believe some of those homes were moved to Watts in the 70's to rebuild some parts of that district that was destroyed after the riots during the late 60's. There is development at Compton and Century Blvd where they moved a lot of these suburban ranch homes from the area around the airport. It almost looks out of place since outside of this island of suburban homes are old run down wooded shacks. They even built a wall around these homes to seperate them from the run down ones just across the street.

Yes it used to be a community that had to close up shop because or the pollution (air and noise) and safety concerns. Although there are a few little parks on that side of Vista Del Mar... it is also supposedly a butterfly habitat now.

Actually from that end planes are taking off from LAX. It does get kind of loud when a Doeing 747 takes off, but I guess you want to hear your partner moan and groun....

^They also fly into LAX from that direction. Moan and groan? Why would you do that in public? The people from the plane would have a nice view. Anyways, I though it was only for making out! Go get a hotel. There's plenty around LAX.

i used to live down the street from there and i still ride my bike on the beach right around there. believe me, it gets ******* loud!!!!! 747s make windows rattle. the airport actually has a noise management department that is in charge of making sure local residences have double pained windows and solid doors.

Homes will never be built here as long as LAX is in business, the whole area should be developed into much needed parkland. The location between LAX and Dockweiler makes it a natural.

It's actually some kind of butterfly reserve now, so i'm nearly certain that nothing will be changing any time soon.

^ Yep and even park land wouldn't work well for that area it is just too noisy.

Westchester Golf Course, which is to the side, had to be shortened to a 9 hole course from a 12 hole course because of the noise.

Just imagine when the A380 starts to service LAX. We will need triple pained windows for noise reduction. Especially flights after 10pm.

Seeing that the airport has been there for sometime, which came first? The airport or the neighborhood?
