Alstom Transport and Transmashholding Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement.

Under the agreement signed on 31 March in Paris in the presence of Russian Railways (RZD) President Vladimir Yakunin, the French company has acquired 25% plus 1 share in Transmashholding’s parent company.

Alstom Transport has committed to provide Transmashholding with technological and methodological support in modernizing production processes at its plants and in developing a new generation of railway equipment for the Russian market.

Modernization plans have already been drawn up for three TMH plants – the Bryansk machine factor, the Demikhov machine factory and Centrosvarmash in the city of Tver. Similar programs will be implemented at TMH’s nine other plants.

Transmashholding will manufacture new products designed for the RF and CIS markets in Russia with a local content of 75-80%. The first joint development will be an electric locomotive built on a base platform, which is being created at the Novocherkassk electric locomotive plant. The first unit is to be supplied in mid-2010. The partners also intend to continue working together on the manufacture of double-deck carriages with seats and sleeping berths, providing a high level of passenger service (including a bar, restaurant and shower cabins); these could be put into production in Tver region in the coming years.

“By working with Alstom we are improving the quality of rail transportation in the Russian Federation, both for passengers and freight. This is in line with the strategic objectives of the Russian Government’s railway reform program now being implemented by RZD management. We regard the signing of this contact as evidence that Russia, France and Europe as a whole aim to continue a policy of integration, a policy of building close and mutually beneficial economic ties”, commented RZD President Vladimir Yakunin.

ZAO Transmashholding was incorporated in 2002. In December 2007, RZD acquired a blocking stake in Transmashholding’s parent company (25% plus one share).

Transmashholding is the largest transport engineering company in Russia and the world leader in railway engineering by physical output. It is also the biggest supplier of rolling stock to Russian Railways.

Where did you find this pic? Is this definitely the new design of ICE (Velaro D)? I live in Germany and I couldn´t find any picture!

Thanx btw!

I honestly don´t like it very much because it looks too much like ICE T (the slower tilting train brother of ICE 3). ICE 3 still has a damn good design, it may be difficult to improve this but I´m curious to see more pics of Velaro D!

RZD will invest 2 billion roubles in the production of RIC carriages at Tver Wagon-Building Plant.

03.04.2009 (17:53)
RZD President Vladimir Yakunin announced it during his visit to this plant. “Last year the decision was taken to organize production of the RIC-carriage for long-distance trains at TWZ, and this will be a first time in the history of national railway manufacturing where carriages matching international standards have been produced in Russia,” said RZD President.

Currently RZD’s park of RIC class carriages amounts to 232 units. Deterioration runs at about 80%. Therefore building of new carriage of this type is an important task for RZD.

This year the engineering design for RIC-carriages will be developed.

Tver made RIC-carriages will match all International Railway Union’s ecological, comfort, safety and other standards. They will be able to develop a speed of 200 km/h, and after modernization their speed can be increased to 250 km/h. The service life of such carriages will be 40 years.

April Fools Day !

Here is the explanation that this is an April joke.

The same picture without the diesel Velaro.

Lamsa is in the out-of-nowhere about 500 km North-East of Moscow in a very remote area. Monzenskaya Railway or Monza is one of the very few private railways in Russia. It is about 300 km long and belongs to the wood harvesting company Ljespromkosh.

Some forest villages still have neither cellular nor land phone connection, no road connection. In an emergency they have to pay the railway to send-in a railcar with the doctor. There is a regular passenger service four times a week but the passenger cars are old, cold and poorly lit. lightstalkers

Finmeccanica and Russian Railways expand cooperation.

The increased cooperation between Russian Railways and Finmeccanica is aimed at creating new innovative products by carrying out joint research projects and testing them at pilot sites.

On April 6, 2009, NIIAS, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, and AnsaldoSTS SpA, a Finmeccanica subsidiary, signed a contract in Moscow for equipment for the test track for the ITARUS-ATC system. The contract was approved by the President of Russian Railways and Finmeccanica on 7 April, 2009.

“As a test site for introducing a new generation of digital radio communications we selected the Sochi - Adler stretch at North-Caucasus Railways, with its heavy passenger traffic. We plan to implement the project work and procurement of equipment this year,” said Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin.
