DIFC extends Lighthouse tower contract

by Sarah Blackman Apr 12, 2009

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority has extended until April 30 the deadline for bids for the contract to build the Lighthouse tower.

DIFC has already extended the deadline several times this year – the original deadline was the end of March.

Prospective bidders include the local Al Basti and Muktha and Arabtec Construction, Lebanon's Arabian Construction Company (ACC), the local and UK firm Dutco Balfour Beatty, the UK-based Laing O'Rourke, and the local and Australian company Nasa Multiplex.

The contract involves the construction of a 320m-high office tower with a gross floor area of 90,000m2.

So the height is being reduced to 320m?

It would of been 655m tall or 2184 ft tall. Location would of been of course Dubai.

o_O yikes, thats about a 24 floor difference or the windmills. Hmm, this could get interesting...
since has been advertised as a "green" (although i find this questionable with these "spectacular light shows" seems more like an offset of additional energy consumption rather than saving it but I dont know all the details)

They might actually increase the tower's height by 2 floors because the height in here says 64 floors but in there it says expected to be 66.

Weird but cool. However, it has little to do with a lighthouse imo

If DIFC are not prepared to build this tower why are they still requesting bids? Maybe they are trying to negotiate prices, or else get a contractor who will build it for a cheaper price.

They sound serious...any estimation on the intended completion date?

Who knows and who cares now. A question like that will only be important once the tower is above ground which nobody knows when will happen. First they have to choose the contractor, then it will take a few months before anything happens on site, then another few months before it's out of the ground.

I care about one thing!!
I really dont appreciate the height reduction just to get the project going.
its like the difference between building something or anything!!!
