I had a small chat with him and when I asked if that was for real or just a concept design, he seamed touched and offended and said "Of course it's real ..."

Only months later we started digging some info about the tower.

To bad the crisis effected it.
Pity huh, but don't you think that the tower's close proximity with Burj Dubai and The Index would have helped speed things up, just a little. In relation to finding a main contractor I mean. It's funny, but I always thought that because of the location of Lighthouse Tower it would get built quicker than lets say Burj Al Alam or Pentominium. At least sell out much quicker than these other towers anyway. But I do understand that no matter what the location, it's all about finance when it comes right down to it of course....

what a great design. I'm really hoping this will be built! The Index, which is almost next to it, will look old compared to the Lighthouse Tower..

Given work has been initiated, I think it will be built. It's position is quite important as well. Would be a waste if it went the way of Al Sharq tower. Which, speaking of it, someone should buy the design and build it somewhere else .

Nope, only 401m. But excluding the Burj Dubai, I think it is the second tallest outside of the Marina after Burj Al Alam.

Check the "Tender for Construction Contract" quote by bizzybonita in the post immediately above yours...
Quote:
...the tower is 320 metres high...
There may have been a height reduction (maybe only two turbines and not three?) but we don't know as no-one has seen a revised render. It would be unusual to call tenders for one contractor to build 3/4 of the tower up to 320m and then have a second contractor construct the rest.
If the 'new-and-unimproved' height is indeed 320m then it will be slightly shorter than The Index (327m).
