A glass cereal box is a glass cereal box. At least Columbus OH had more style when they built their Hyatt angular. The JW is just plain gross.

Well, the top rendering makes it look kinda cool. by the way I took the average floor count for hotels in Indy and this sucker is goingto be what 350-450 feet? Something like that anyway.

Now we will have 4 rather similar Hotel Designs (long skinny) lined up in a row... the Westin, Marriott, JW Marriott and whatever that other "fugly" smaller tower to the west is. Have you noticed... it doesnt even look like they are gonna tear down the Courtyard Marriott already there? Lets just build this monstrocity around it. It looks like the existing Courtyard is the building coming right up out of the middle of the project.

For comparison, the original proposal:

I fail to see how the new design is much of an improvement. How did Jonathan Hess look at the new design and say "Yep, that'll do 'er"?

HATE IT! So, a whopping 29-stories! Woo-hoo.....

NOT. At least I didn't get my hopes up for a great design.

Huh. This is actually even worse than I expected it would be. I didn't think that was possible. This will do absolutely nothing for our skyline, at least nothing positive. I am beginning to think that Indianapolis will never get another tall building added to its skyline, ever again. We could have had one with the Intercontinental...

I hope the Kosene proposal brings REAL new architecture to Indy. That is, if the city council grows a pair of balls and picks it! I MEAN MY GOD!

You know, one thing I have noticed is that Indy builders do notlike to have crowns on their buildings. (chase and 300 N Meridian exceptions) But honestly, Why could they not have a nice crown on top that lit up at night and was aesthetically pleasing? Kind of like the Waterview tower in Chicago? Is it really that hard?

IndyWatch-

You are absolutely correct! That is pitiful. They are going to just cover the lot.

Circles and Squares has some more info and renderings. First off, they're reporting the JW Marriott is 317' tall, which puts it a hair over Capital Center South and a hair under the AT&T Building, making it the 10th tallest in downtown. They also have this high-res rendering from Victory Field:

And this site plan:

It's not hard, it's just that if this piece of shit were to be proposed in Chicago, the whole city would lash out at it. Plus, there's no way the city would even think about giving it the green light. I think that Indy has a lot of citizens who are aware of the piss poor design, but unfortunately most of the population doesn't give two shits about it. We are also stuck with a mayor and city council who think that a Starbucks surrounded with a parking lot is good development for downtown.
