I'll be downtown with my wife and son on July 7th. They are having a USS Indianapolis Survivor Reunion parade that day. Ending with a service at the IWM showcasing the new USS Indianapolis Museum.

They are moving along quick with this...

Construction of Cultural Trail stays on track
By Francesca Jarosz
[email protected]
June 6, 2007

The ripped-up terrain along Alabama Street might be an inconvenience to pedestrians and local businesses, but it's a sign that construction of the 7.5-mile bike and pedestrian Indianapolis Cultural Trail to link the city's districts is on schedule. Construction for the Alabama Street portion of the trail is set to finish by mid-November, with landscaping planned for spring.
Crews worked in tandem along different sections of Alabama on Tuesday, installing curbing, preparing the surface for concrete and removing light poles and traffic lights. Some crews are working 10- to 12-hour days, five days a week, to meet the deadline, said Melody Park. She is the trail's program manager with R.W. Armstrong the engineering firm overseeing the trail's design and construction. Crews will work even longer hours in the next few months.
Park said they're completing the foundation before the "extreme makeover" begins next month, when they'll start to install color pavement and lighting.
"That's putting skin on top of bones," Park said. "It will start to come alive in July."

July 7th - Meet/Greet Downtown Indy

It seems like there are at least a few of us that can meet in downtown Indy on July 7th. I propose we set the date and get it on our calendars. Who's in?

it is very stupid that any of these were demolished, and replaced with ugly ass boxes, these timeless beautiful structures were replaced by wortheless hidiouse structures. What we should do is recognize the mistake and be more pro-preservation, so this mistake doesent happen again.
Has anyone looked at "Indianapolis then and now"
it is lyk the most depressing book ever.

I end up taking photos of most downtown developments. I'll try to post them more often.

Does anyone know anything about starting an (Indianapolis) Wiki? It would be nice to start storing all the info/renderings/photos we acquire in one central, editable place.

Here are some shots I took this afternoon:

707 North East Street Condominiums

West Facade

Northwest Corner

Reference Rendering

Lockerbie Park (about 25% has been completed):

Great. We have confirmed ablerock, arenn, & k2h. Anyone else care to join?

Arenn, did you have a place in mind for lunch? Is everyone okay with meeting at the circle around 10:00 AM?

a wiki on Indianapolis development? Sounds like a good idea. I created the page on Irvington and work on it every once in a while

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irvingt...toric_District

It's not that hard to get the hang of it.

I'm 50/50 on a meet, I would know by the first week of July. As for a place to eat on Mass Ave, I would suggest Yats. 5 bucks for a full plate of Cajun food, you can't beat that.

A private college system plans to move into the Lexington project at Meridian and 12th Streets downtown. Brown Mackie College has executed a lease for 25,000 square feet in the 1921 building that once housed Lexington Automobile Co. The building is part of a redevelopment and renovation project by locally based Shiel Sexton, which bought an entire city block (including the Lexington building and others it has torn down) at auction in September 2006 from office equipment distributor VanAusdall & Farrar Inc. Brown Mackie is owned by Education Management Corp. and also has campuses in Merrillville and Michigan City.

I have a question about the 707 North East Street Condominiums

Are there any plans for the old church across the street? Is it being revitalized?

Don't worry, you won't be harmed in any way. Maybe some minor scrapes or bruises.

Not sure, but there is a cool little building/store front on the same side of the street.. kind of nestled between 757 and Real Silk.. Someone should open up a bar or cafe there.. burrito shop.. yeah. BURRITOS!
