Hell, I'd much rather have that than that parking garage.
Has anyone seen the structure that once stood where the parking garage is?
At one point it was like a second empire palace, but then heaviely altered in the 50s I belive. Egh, what a shame. They need to do something with that parking garage.

Great pics! Thanks for the link. It's nice to know that the Conservative Republicans don't have to walk far for their gay mags.

That's funny!
I got the impression the photographer was in town for Saturday's Indy Pride fest.

I think he may have sung with the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus. Chicago and the Indianapolis Men's Chorus did a joint PRIDE concert on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon at the American Cabaret Theatre. There were a bunch of Chicagoans in town for that.

A mixed-use development, condos/retail. I'll have renderings to show at the July 7th meet-up.

Conceptual or proposed, when the idea was made public, The Indianapolis Star printed a rendering of it.

Here's a heads-up on a potentially fabulous alley/building mural project commencing this summer in my 'hood, Fountain Square:

These photos show the scale and effect this will have on the neighborhood:

City to review $50M project

A redevelopment proposal for the north end of downtown is up for zoning approval at 1 p.m. Thursday. If developers can secure financing and city approval, the $50-million project would incorporate the existing Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance building along Meridian Street and add a 14-story tower with a 130-room hotel, 160 condos and 500 parking spaces. It would include space for a restaurant, sports bar and office space, all sitting south of 18th Street between Illinois and Meridian streets. The developer, locally based Inner-Urban Homes & Hospitality, is asking for the city to vacate air rights above Pierson Street to allow for the new building to extend from Meridian to Illinois. A four-story parking garage along Illinois would be topped by 10 floors of condos. Planning staff has recommended approval.

So does vacate air rights mean that they'll build OVER Pierson Street? Like they did for that parking garage near Conseco Fieldhouse OVER ****** er i mean Virginia Avenue? Im just curious, that's all... Can anyone clarify this? Thanks!

This is one of the projects that I am most looking forward to. If they get the financing and it goes forward, this could really spark a revival for Midtown!

I really like the Grain Dealers building and hope they don't change it too much.

When Symphony Tower was proposed by Bob Borns, he was redoing Union Station. Also, Stenz was proposing an 18 story"Mass. Point", that never went forward. I think all that was in 1984.

Should the Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Building get a reclad as part of this development? If so, then does the facade look bad?
