It would include space for a restaurant, sports bar and office space, all sitting south of 18th Street between Illinois and Meridian streets. The developer, locally based Inner-Urban Homes & Hospitality, is asking for the city to vacate air rights above Pierson Street to allow for the new building to extend from Meridian to Illinois. A four-story parking garage along Illinois would be topped by 10 floors of condos. Planning staff has recommended approval.

This is great news! Finally new density projects outside of Mile Square. Does anyone know if they already have financing backed up? I hope this isn't going to wait 3 years to begin construction while they line up enough presales.

Also, It'd be nice if they could just build the garage undergound, but hopefully the garage floors will be given a nice facade.

Is this project the same as the one that included a 12 story building around 190 ft. tall?

North Meridian has so many beautiful old buildings and includes some PRIME vacant lots just asking for development. I hope one day to see a line of mid-rises on Meridian all the way up to 38th Street.

Is there any progress on the North Meridian beautification project?

Are there any plans for the Ivy Tech campus to expand? The State budgeted $70 million for Ivy Tech capital improvement projects.

I truely think downtown could stretch all the way up meridian for busnise.
I have seen old victorian houses turned into shops while looking like houses, its rather cool.

I've always thought that the Consolidated building should be converted into condos. It has an excellent location.

There was a comic book store on the first floor...I remember going into Downtown Comics as a kid and begging my mom to buy me an Archie or Superman comic book. Man, I miss the 90's.

Yep. That's EXACTLY what it means.

It was 1984. But Syphony Tower was proposed by Jim Kittle, Sr. Borns' tower was a separate project proposed for the parking lot to the north of Claddagh on S. Meridian.

Indiana Square

OK I promise not to update everytime a construction worker scratches his ass I promise. They have the fencing up and workers are on the North side of the Tower removing limestone panels on the 5th floor wall.

Is anyone else irritated by the fact that they aren't going to modify the base? I mean they don't have to do anything extravagant, but surely they could at least change the glass.

I know, the renderings don't show the first 4 floors. They will at least need to replace the white and often stained limestone that covers the pillars out on the Penn and Ohio terraces. I do know that the outside of the attached garage will be changed to reflect the building's new look.

More on the Grain Dealers project and a rendering of the tower:

Tower House on Meridian

Here’s a rendering for the $50-million project I wrote about yesterday. The Tower House on Meridian proposal incorporates the existing Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance building along Meridian Street and would add a 14-story tower including a six-floor, 130-room hotel and 160 condos, along with 600-car parking garage along Illinois Street. The parking garage would feature 14,000 square feet of retail space along Illinois and 1,800 square feet of office space along 18th Street. The project was designed by Greenwood-based MECA Design Group.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the angle of the rendering. Are we looking SE at the building? If so, this really doesn't front Illinois much.

Or are we looking NE? In that case, they don't seem to be taking advantage of south-facing, downtown skyline views.

That view is facing due northwest. The balconies seem to be positioned toward the skyline.

I don't like the use of brick on this building. If they utilized a cladding similar to adjacent buildings (off-white or beige) it would be fine IMO.
