Another Seattle beauty gone forever
On Highland across from Kerry Park there is a beautiful apt. complex. I walked by the other day and noticed they were all empty. I always admired the beauty of this complex. Now a five story condo is coming to the site. What a shame.

That has been in the works for ever now. I walked by it the other day and it looked like they were just renovating the inside.
I never stopped and read the Land Use Action sign. If they are tearing the whole thing down then damn............that sucks.

Hopefully they are just adding a floor to that. I like to think that there would have been an uproar in the media if they were to be demolished. Does the sign say the existing buildings are to be demolitished or removed?

Oh well... Time changes whether we like it or not... I have been noticed many brick buildings are getting demolished around downtown Seattle lately...

That irkes me. I really like that building. I remember when the old victorian home on the end of that block was surprisingly demolished one Sunday morning years back.

It's being demolished. My coworker lived there until the project was coming.
I haven't seen many old buildings demolished except for projects, even if the projects haven't started yet. |

Sad when beautiful old buildings are lost.
But there must have been something with that building economically that prevented it from being refurbished for maximum profit. At the end of the day, right or wrong, that's what it comes down to. Again, I'm not saying it is right, but this is what drives demolitions and rebuilding. I also wonder if the Kerry Park exotic view location plays into this, there are probably some who are willing to pay top dollar for this world-class view. In a perfect world, the developer or owner would give up some profits to protect these "old beauties". Too bad it isn't a perfect world. |

Couldn't they just gut the inside and keep the facade, like what was done at 12th & Madison & Cristalla?

Yeah it's a beautiful old apartment building and wish it would be still there. Another beauty gone forever.
I've seen that sign and was sad to see that go when I was in that area few months ago.

I'm surprised no one would protest against this development...

It's definately coming down
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This sign sits on the property of the beautiful house that was bulldozed next door but residents say the apt. complex will be part of the development too.

This is ridiculouse, something like this would never pass over here.
What is seattle doing?! They are destroying their valuable history for faddish ugly condos, its ridiculous, demolishing timeless sturdy buildings, egh, this is depressing.

Unfortunately that is the case. I wouldn’t presume that this kind of thing happens all the time here in Sea Town but it looks like this one got away from us. (Moment of silence)

That's sad... I'm surprised no one is doing something to stop that from happening...

History should be preserved, or it will be forgotten. That building reminds me so much of my neighborhood, its probably stronger than what will be built there aswell.

Hmm that building didn't look in that bad of shape. But note that in the first post, the 1st and 3rd pictures are of a different building that won't be demolished. I just hope the new building will fit in and won't be some eyesore.

WTF! When did this happen? I always admired this building; it was perfect for the spot. What's coming in its place? A modernist trash of tin and bare concrete?
