right. only around 11% of dubais gdp is oil related (correct me if im a bit off), that includes oil tools etc. the purpose of building a city is the same as every other country in the world. To become successful, rich and an MEDC thats respected such as norway. I think its completley stupid to ask why to develop a country, why dont you go and say things like that to the people fighting to save the african countries, to help them become developed. do you find that stupid?

Dubai is trying to get away from oil, and it currently runs its power plants on gas imported from qatar. Talk about oil, talk about abu dhabi!

Dubai is more than a desert, its a country with everything, and a great beach and an all rounded destination with the same things as places such as england, and even more!

has anyone seen the top of the burj? i will take a pic, it looks weird, like the sides arent fully built

I would also expect that the containers would NOT have been loaded by the time the first batch was being installed on the building - after all if they failed, then they might have to stay at the company to be fixed!!! I doubt they would have even manufactured that many to start with - if they were wrong they could have wasted 1000s of windows and $millions.

Also this is not speculation (about the 2nd load coming by ship and the first few coming by airfreight) as some people suggested- it was in an article that I found via Google News that I posted a few weeks back. It also makes perfect sense to not send 10000 windows and then find out they don't fit! Imagine the cost!

In a few weeks I expect to see lots being installed (they'll probably do some of each type - ie. some mechanical levels, all types of edges).
In a few months I expect to see 30-60 windows a day being installed imho.

Yeah, I didn't realize the ship route was so huge. Looks like much more than 3000 miles, maybe even 4,500. I must have been thinking India.

Wake up man.
If you believe in stories like "when oil is gone, Arabs will ride camels again" then your IQ must be about 40-50.

so u r saying it doesnt deserve to be developed just because its a desert?

The more it needs to be developed would be a better answer.

Heard of Las Vegas? Las Vegas is doing the same thing. If Las Vegas can do it then Dubai can do it. Dubai is doing really well. Anything is possible.

We can build a HUGE city on the sea... We can build a HUGE city on the sky... We can build a HUGE city in the space... We can build a HUGE cities on planets too. Anything is possible.

ok but dubai really needs to understand that what they are building are greedy energy consuming buildings that in a fuel crisis will be the first to fall because none of the developments are at all green.

I still can't believe Dubai is getting all of these super tall towers. It's great to see how quickly the construction has progressed.
