I reckon 4000sq/ft is enough for all the residents and their family and friends between 5 floors!

A very good podcast, Sky Tower. So with cinemas etc. every few floors Burj D is really going to be a lot more like one of those city in a tower concepts floating around for a while now, almost the halfway mark between a normal mixed use building and the city in tower thingy...and stuff.

Yes this building is a next generation skyscraper who is the start off an entire new league in architectural construction off superscrapers.

Cheers

Great job Sky Tower! It's neat to hear about some of the newest technologies used in this amazing tower, not to mention the email to Mr. Smith.

Counted 131 storeys on last Furys pics. But it is not all formwork at L131, half is still on L130. Tomorow will be L132 already

i think official height for lev130 was 468.1m.
so 2 more levels (132fl) would be 476m.?

Let's hope size really doesn't matter

Let's hope size really doesn't matter
Because, chances are, Chicago will never again boast the 'World's Tallest Building

First, the earth will move. Then, the 2,000-foot-high Chicago Spire will rise from our lakefront in 2010, higher and higher, surging a full 25 percent taller than the Sears Tower, changing the profile of our city. But it won't give us back our claim to "World's Tallest Building."
Because by then, the 2,296-foot Burj Dubai will already have been built in United Arab Emirates (2008). And the 2,500-foot Al Burj, also in UAE, will be higher than the Spire when it's finished in 2010.

Back home, Chicago's Trump Tower, all rounded edges and mirrors on the river, prepares to join the second tier -- bigger, but not biggest -- rising within 10 feet of the John Hancock Center and Aon Center.

The task of erecting a building taller than the Spire is left to Asia and the Middle East. The biggest is the Burj Mubarak al-Kabir in Kuwait, soaring .62 mile high from the waterfront by 2011.

Chicago's Sears Tower (1,450 feet) lost its "world's tallest" fame in 1996, when the spires of the Petronas Towers (1,483 feet) in Malaysia were deemed worthy of measure, but the antennae atop the Sears were not.

"The biggest building is never a bad thing to have. It's something for the tourists to point at and say they've seen it," observed the city's cultural historian, Tim Samuelson. "We had it for a long time."

From the 22-story Masonic Temple in the 1890s, to Montgomery Ward's observation deck (394 feet above the city) in the early 1900s, to its "broad shoulders," Chicago has always embraced "big." Even when the 1990 census formally stripped us of our "Second City" status, edged out by Los Angeles, we gamely tried to fill up the space left by population loss through individual weight gain.

Structural engineer R. Shankar Nair, principal and senior vice president at Chicago's Teng & Associates, was chairman of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat -- the worldwide authority on skyscraper height -- when the Sears Tower lost its crown. He said the super-skyscrapers under construction today are "a remarkable achievement."

"People like records," he said this week. "Tallness is something that's very obvious, very apparent to anyone. People want to be the biggest, the best and the tallest."

Is it a guy thing?

"It probably is, but I'm not sure I want to go there," Nair said. "I'm certainly glad to see that 9/11 hasn't turned us inward and away from this sort of thing. The lesson we learned is that we should keep criminals from flying into tall buildings, not that we should stop building them."
