I'm toast at 95 here in "sunny" FL.
Love the banner flag showing the render.
I can`t imagine how these workers are able to do this kind of work. I can`t even imagine looking at this building when it is that hot. Today I thougt I`ll die every moment - it had up to 27 degrees!

Using the diagram from the big PPS files ( shown below )......

This shows the distance from tier 26 to tier 27 as 9.6m.
I measured this distance as 51 image pixels.
Math ( 51/9.6 ) says the image has 5.3125 pixels per meter (ppm).
The pinacle has 16 pixels wide.
So 16p/5.3125ppm = 3.01m

The pinnacle in that very nice recent render was waaay too thin.
I think that was deliberate to hide the real potential height.

How did you get 1.8m to 2m.
You may be right but just wondering.
I used the same method a few weeks back but I measured it on my screen with a ruler!

I measured the spire itself at 66.5mm and the width at 5mm.

The height is shown as 39900mm so,

5/66.5 = 0.752

0.752 x 39900 = 300048 or 3.00m, so I concur that the pinacle in that powerpoint has a pinnacle of 3m wide!

if you look, there's going to be tier setbacks even on the actual spire. but when you go on the official site it says 26 tiers. well if you dont count the setbacks on the actual spire there's 26. just like the official website says

Hi all.

Graham - That diagram from the ppt on the burj is squashed vertically to fit on the slide IMO. I am the one who stretched it vertically and added the red arrows so the diagrams match the correct tiers. Here it is but remember that I just stretched it to where I thought it should be - so i wouldn't use it to measure anything. It does look more acurate IMO.

Vitalstatistix - Excellent link to beautiful fresh pics. Pics may be "old" but if they are previously unseen ( fresh ) they are "new". Thanx also to your shots from your room - keep up the good work.

Considering that the BD is visible from 95 km, i obtain an estimated height of 635m considering a person with a height of 2m and 644m for a person of 1.5m. Tomorrow I will recalculate it again, now it is to late. Maybe I am wrong or maybe they haven't taken into account the spire.

hehe - maybe we should have a pinnacle thickness pool too!

Squashed!! yes - that explains it. So probably 2 m is right. My mistake.
I think fury stretched it about right since the circles look pretty round.

What moron would squash a diagram in only one dimension that has measurements on it??
Objects in mirror may appear closer than they are.
Things may not be as they seem.
You can't read a book by it's cover.
If you want something done right, do it yourself.

I guess that's enuff, lol.

OK - I tried again. And got some unexpected results!

First thing was to stretch back with accuracy.....
I printed a perfect circle in green to confirm the right stretch ( 5 tries ).

Next, I re-did the math using the new accustretch diagram.

9.6m = 80 pixels
80/9.6 = 8.333ppm ( pixels per meter )
pinnacle is 14 pixels
14/8.333 = 1.68m
1.68m = less than 5 and 1/2 feet!

1.68m seems skimpy, IMHO.

skimpy? i think 6 or 7ft /1.8-2m is pretty thick for a spire. The worlds tallest spire currently attached to 322.m Q1 tower is 93m long. Its quite massive base at 1.2m but thins out to .8m.
anyway the guessing game continues..

Reading about the heat and working conditions upthread -- wondering why this building *must* be delivered by the end of 2008? What's this race against time for?

A good question!!

I think it's the way the construction contracts are laid out.
If the schedule is not adhered too then the construction company has to pay a penalty. If they are really late they loose all their profit on the project.
So speed is of the essence.
If the contracts were not laid out this way it could be more profitable for the construction company to take much more time than the buyer wants to wait.
The usual answer - lol - it's all about the money, sigh.

Acustretch - Good one.
I always thought 5 or 6 feet is plenty big too. Lots of room for a ladder inside to go up and change the light bulb. Would that be cool or what - to open the hatch and have a look around from up there ! Me thinks a tether would be prudent though.

I also wanted to thank Darth Shemp for the idea to put Burj info in your Sig. - Excellent idea. I see Graham took that and ran with it.
