Just some simple calculations

* 484m/134 fl : 3.6m on average for each floor
* facade area around BD :111500 m2 (if i'm not wrong)
* Averave length of glass around BD : 111500/3.6 (30972 m) of glass
* Given that the project should end 31-12-2008 that means 568 days are left
30972/568 54.5 m long of glass should be installed daily to keep up with the deadline, will they ever reach that speed
Please correct me if i'm wrong

Depends which part of tower we're talking about.
Central part of tower will stay without glass till the end of construction probably, because crane's cargo can damage it.

let's say a panel is approximately 1.8m large, that makes 30 panels a day.

If, as planned, they decide to install panneling on several levels at the same time, and covering the three sides in parrallel, that seems easily doable.

For example, having two stages with each three wings, would mean having to install 5 panels in a day per site.

I guess my computations are completely off, but that still shows the point: while building erection is mostly sequential and barely parrallelizable (already exploited here, by building the setbacks in parrallel with the core, for example), cladding is much more of it, because many cladding sites can be working in parrallel. The impeding factor on cladding speed, I would guess, would be cargoing the glass upward.

To me it seems that in building construction it usually is the cladding that is waiting for erection to advance.

Warning: this is my highly uneducated guess. Don't take anything here for granted.
I'm welcoming anyone having a bit of knowledge to explain us more of the problem here.

Vincent.

well i take then in 5mp and the original resolution is really good, but i think that photobucket scales it down, cus i dont change the actual picture size.

if anyone knows where i can upload full size pics can they tell me? and i will put it in my signature so that u guys can view them full size.

The original sizes would make it much easier for me to line them up for an eventual "movie". Maybe Imageshack would work for the full size

Imageshack will take up to 1.5 MB

www.imageshack.us

640 x 480 is all that would be needed for an .avi movie though.

It's the initial lining up of the frames that would benefit from larger pictures. Of course the final "movie" wouldn't be full size.

All parts, at this rate they'll finish 5 years from now they were late to start the cladding and they're still going very slow

The CN Tower is just 2.4% taller than the Ostaniko Tower. The Russian tower is also 9 years older.

Something different. This thread has more than 2500 posts.

Only 8 more meters to surpass the final height of the SWFC.

Edit: I counted that 4th mechanical floors took 40 days to complete (Jan 30th - March 12th) so it should be around 40days+5x3days = 55 days (Aug 5th) until burj dubai passes taipei101.
It took 40 days to complete the 4th mech floors? I remember it took a while, but are you sure it was THAT long? The wings that are currently at the 3rd mech floor are moving up faster than that.

I guess flickr would work perfect.

If you prefer to keep the rights, too (I don't know about flickr policy much. I guess you can set the creative commons status accordingly (retain ownership, can be viewed)), you can simply upload the file.

There's a great service for that, and it's free but lasts only 24h: dl.free.fr?

Hope that helps. I'd be glad to make a movie of them too. HD version promised .

Vincent.
