so every square centimeter at the base can only support a bit more than 800Kg. How much concrete does that make in itself ?

Don't mean to be rude, but this isn't even close to the sort of calculation you would need to do to assess this sort of thing. You've ignored the reinforcement and you've ignored buckling effects and countless other things which structural engineers like myself have to assess. After studying engineering at university for 5 years and maybe working as a structural engineer for another 5 or 10 years, you would probably have some hope of working out how much load the walls at the base of the Burj Dubai can take! Full marks for effort though!

Lets say buckling isnt the biggest problem for such a structure. Still you need to consider the bending forces at the base of the structure due to wind accelerations and structural eccentricities, the compression forces resulting from these forces are normally larger than axial compression.

Additionally, not the strength of the structure of this height is governing but the stiffness, since the structure may only bend for a small ratio per floor (cladding problems yielding out of this) and people will feel accelerations resulting by occelation of the building.

And then you didnt even assess fire safety, fatige and architectonic aspects. Its very hard to design a building this size, full respect for SOM for doing so.

But also full marks for the effort.

Awesome pics Imre, cladding is comming along nicely! expect the height to slow down after 1-2 more floors becasue it will reach the 5th mech floors, so the wings will have time to catch up whilst that mech floor and core reconfiguration take place. i expect it to not gain height for another month or so come next week. but this will help them with cladding the lower half.

Coruscant has several kilometers of building mass under the skyscrapers and on top of that the several kilometers high scrapers, not a very liveable place.
In Dubai there is a combination of low and highrise areas, and quite a few parks altough i personally would like to see even more wellplaned and substantial areas of that sort.

With that said of course i dont take your suggestion seriously :P

I seriously doubt that google will be a medium in 1000 years, and yes, I am referring to a cultural meltdown, wich, like history tells us is inevidable (the 1000 number I just took, easy to write)
Where the pyramids are today there was ones a well "urbanly-designed" ambient with gardens, ponds and trees. The pyramids even had a shiny white coat on that is now gone, still, no one can be sure how they made them, there are people spending their whole life trying to find out

And let┤s just say that in distant future where computers and modernday comunications will be a thing of the far far past, there is NOOO way for people understanding how it "was" possible to make those structures

but I am assuming that at least 1/3 of the building will be down, if not all, due to degration of the materials and normal natures forces

Cultures and eras come and go, we jump from barbarians to civilized people in 1000 yrs easily (hmmm rome, greece, egypt, eutruscans, mayas and etc)
Don┤t take those wanderings of mine seriously though, I am not predicting any apocalyps (not anytime soon at least hehe) Just allways been fasinated with time

Imre; awesome photos, I┤ll buy you a COOOLD beer if I ever meet you sometimes,
I like the ones you take, facing directly on one wing, so one can see all the 3 wings in construction in one photo
