So this means that the Burj Dubai is the tallest building or not?

Everyone really needs to relax about all this. The Burj Dubai WILL BE the world's tallest building by a huge margin. So why don't you not worry about the exact second that it passes Taipei, CN, etc. Just enjoy the construction progress.

Exactly. Follow his advice. Every time I come to this thread, people are bickering over how tall it is down the nanometer. It's getting tedious to read.

I do not want to fight with you, Culwulla, and I have an enormous amount of respect for all the work you do here, but... hmm... please note how ironic it is that you make that statement on a forum where everyone can post and edit as well.

Yes, I know that the average person writing here is more knowledgeable about skyscrapers than the average person on Wikipedia. Yes, I know that even "official" figures are often out-of-date or inflated or simply cases where the officials don't even know but just say something.

Skyscrapercity.com also is as accurate as the people editing it.

All in good jest.

sorry, but wikipedia is mostly nonsense because anyone -without being specialist- can post whatever he wants.... The best information source is the official site itself: www.burjdubai.com

Incredible - In my short 24 years there will be total of 4 (some contested) WTBs, all with distinct and unique designs. If I was born in 1931, the year ESB opened - at my current age I would still have to wait almost 20 years for a new WTB!

In my nearly 37 there will have been 6.

ESB--->WTC--->Sears--->Petronas--->Taipei 101--->Burj Dubai.

I wonder how long Burj Dubai will hold the record?

What a time to be alive.

^its strange, burj dubai will take the WTB title by about the biggest margain ever, yet it may also hold the title for one of the shortest ammounts of time. The Al Burj could potentially begin construction before this is built, giving the burj dubai about 5 years maximum.

This is the most stunning design of any WTB in my opinion, WTC were boxes, sears is a monster, petronas look like elongated tits and taipei 101... well where do you start.

You don't have to be that high to see the Palms, at least Palm Jumeirah and Deirah. You can see them from a 5th floor window as well, presuming the view is not obstructed by other buildings.

I've seen the WTB go from the ESB to T101 and now BD has passed that. I don't know how long it will stand, but it's the most radical change in height yet....very exciting!

I never thought of Sears or WTC as earth-shaking designs by any stretch, but I liked them ok. I sure wish we'd build something taller and better looking and take back the record, but I can't see it happening for many years.

For some reason that site is too "smart" for most computers to access. I just get a notice about needing to use a "flash" to view it and cannot access beyond that

You need the 'Macromedia Flash Player' installed on your hard drive.....free to anyone who wants it via download. Just google what's in quotes above and you'll find it. Sure make the presentations nice on some sites.

That said you ain't missin' much on this site.

Burj Dubai is incredible,,But the Al Burj?

What can I say,I can't believe this is really happening, and by such a large margin compared to the current title holders, but if the Al Burj gets built,we're ALMOST getting into the territory of Frank Lloyde Wright's Mile High Illinois that was proposed in the 50s I believe,WOW!.
