No! The "official" number from Emaar right now is available at www.emmar.com OR at www.burjdubai.com, and is 507.3 meters.

When we get official word that it's the tallest, you'll definitely see talk of it, plus the thread will probably say "World's Tallest Building."

thanks

This Saturday the Burj Dubai will officially become the world’s tallest structure, eclipsing the reigning champ, Taiwan's Taipei 101.

Sky Tower will find this quote interesting:

"All elevations are referenced to Building Reference Datum 0.000m = +11.500m Dubai Municipality Datum (DMD)"

Good post Twickline except I couldnt get the pics to work.

I am one of those wierd types that likes height and looking down from high places but im scared of heights.

Anyone else notice that the concrete looks more sand colored than in previous Imre photo's ?..is that the concrete drying ? Thanks to everyone who posts pics...very very interesting, I visit everyday to see the latest updates.

Question 1 : Does anyone have any pics of looking down from the Burj's height ?

Question 2 : How deep will the man made lake be around the tower ?, im sure it wont be too deep....4ft ?

Well, they aren't doing that per day as we have been seeing. Just go back a few pages and see the progression. Due to the ebb & flow of the building's shape, there is quite a lot of glass to wrap around one floor. Maybe the cladders will pick up speed a bit now they are getting more familiar with the on-hands process.

IMO once we see about 10 floors fully clad, it will really start to give us an indication of how the finished product will appear. We need to see a solid block of the stuff.

Great pics as always Imre. Thanks

you're very welcome here, as long as you DON'T quote pictures in any more of your posts, it becomes extremely annoying having to scroll through the same pictures again and again.

As for the question don't fully understand you, but in my mind its pretty much bang on with the renderings we've seen.

I'm assuming it's easier to attach new ones on the top of the already installed pieces.

Thanks Altin, maybe if another 10 articles of this nature were written before, a few other non believers in what I've been posting with regards to datum heights, podium heights, artificial ground heights, last completed floor heights, pinnacle of construction height, total constuction height since December.

For those people who want to know what these heights are, they can PM me.....as it causes too much grief from Burj trolls to put them on the forum.

By the way the true datum ground height of BD surpassed Tapei 101 on 21st June 2007....from the same point where Taipei 101 is measured from.

Dubai Municipality Datum (DMD) is currently set at 1.13m above sea level. (exactly the height that the Al Burj datum was recently set)

Local natural ground level at the site is 12.63m above sea level (also confirmed a fair average height of the local area on Google Earth) with a GPS monitoring station located to recieve it's reading (building reference 0.000m) at 12.35m above sea level or 11.22m above datum ground.

From the building reference point (GPS) the pinnacle of construction reached 510.39m at 07.00 UAE time of July 4th.

We already have a WTB, but most of you will go by what you're spoonfed!

Once again, thank you Altin

Burj Dubai Towering Over 101

By Danna Farhang, Staff Reporter

This Saturday the Burj Dubai will officially become the world’s tallest structure, eclipsing the reigning champ, Taiwan's Taipei 101.

The building was last measured at 507.3 metres and 140 floors.

Project managers today refused to elaborate further on its current height - they would only say July 21 would be the record-breaking moment.

Burj Dubai factfile:
There are approximately 5,900 employees working on site.
Work continues around the clock with 3,500 workers by day and 1,500 by night.
The biggest accident was in 2005, when a labourer fell to his death from an unsecured beam, according to RK Moorthy. a health and safety manager for Turner Construction.
There are 1,210 fire extinguishers on the site.
The biggest safety issues are major falls and falling materials, Moorthy said.
The most common injuries are to the hands and feet.
Some 18 people have been fired from their jobs for failing to follow safety regulations. Many of the dismissals were due to smoking in forbidden areas.
Workers are now frisked for smoking-related materials. If caught, they are immediately fired.
Project managers were speaking at a briefing session today between officials on the project and Dubai Civil Defence members including its head, Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi.

Mohammad Moizuddin, on-site health and safety manager at Burj Dubai, said the sheer scale of the project means that more stringent safety and security measures have been put in place.

All labourers working on the site must take a three-hour safety course before starting their jobs.

Moizuddin said: "The workers are coming from villages and don’t know about health and safety. We took regulations from Dubai Municipality, Civil Defence, the federal government as well as input from international safety standards."

"We are one of the first projects to have a fire hydrant system during the construction phase - the most difficult thing is to maintain the fire hydrant system."

Strict labour controls have also been put in place to ensure illegal workers are not found anywhere on the project - a prerequisite to health and safety requirements.

The Burj Dubai will be completed next year. Its final height has not been made public.
