just to correct you, it's Urdu not irdu and it's the national language of pakistan.

Its widely spoken because there are lots of pakistanis there and also northern indians who speak the language or its variant known as hindi( which are practically the same except some pronunciation and a few words).

Back to topic now.

I shall be visiting dubai in early 2008, so I hope i would be able to see the full length( or near full) of the building

No english is not widely spoken , arabic and irdu are the two main languages spoken in Dubai .... if you do happen to visit , there is this small place , made out of wood, not that it matter haha :P just that wood is strange in this part of the world , anywho , its got a Huge sign outside with "English for all" written on it , what you do is , for example , go around shopping malls or markets or even theme parks , take special booklets they hand out and go to this center and they translate it all for you, and for a small extra fee they can throw in a camcorder with actuall questions you might have spoken in arabic and irdu

BTW: I think they have started working on the 141st floor.

Having experienced life in Dubai, what immediately springs to mind is the humidity in the air forming condensation on the windows, especially at this time of year. I know sections of those windows are still open to the elements, but there is still probably a significant heat difference between the inside and out. I'm with vanhenrik on this but unless someone sees it in person and can ctaegorically confirm this for us we'll never know! Just like the exact height of the building... pretty pointless discussion seeing as most of us here can only speculate.
I think there's a protective film on the glass to prevent damage becouse the building is still U/C.

Christian Bale was a very brave man to do that just for a movie ... I doub't any of us will do something that extreme (or remotely close to it) for the sake of Burj Dubai or a visit on top of it

(You see, I stayed on topic )

Especially since he knew he would have to bulk up more than most of us could for "Batman Begins" just a few months later. My body would just give up and die probably.

Oh sorry...I need to get back on topic...uh...it's looking really tall these days!!!!1

Staying on topic + saying useless comments is also against the rules

Nothing was mentioned in the reportage about a protective film nor anywhere I remember .. I guess it would be cheaper to clean it than coat it with something and removing the coat considering the low cost labour

OK so as of 17th july, the panel installation rate is over 35 panels per day (38 in 26 hours, the two last of which are a pause).

Double that and they're on track...

Vincent.

Great morning pictures Imre! The sun's angle really makes the cladding look awesome and silvery. It's going to look even better when they get 10 or 20 storeys cladded!

Wow, they're amazing pics. This is an amazing project but I still can't help but feel there's something...stupid about it. It just seems over the top!

BTW, i watched the machinist last night . Love that film.
