Thydrail, what makes you feel safe at 100 floors but not 160, lets be fair if anything happens you aint gonna be getting down from the 100th before a disaster runs its course, the extra 60 floors is pretty much insignificant.... Although the higher you are the more time you've got for your parachute to open if you want to try a daring escape. A fire truck will struggle to reach the tenth floor of a building, a fire helicopter will be as happy at 160 as 100.

Got this from the BBC website....(22nd July)

Quote:
At more than 512 metres, the Burj Dubai tower in the UAE has become the world's tallest building, and when finished will be 693m high.
Where the hell have they got this height from?

Timelapse video

I was wondering - has anyone tried to take pictures of the tower from one fixed point every, let's say, 2-3 days? A timelapse video of a tallest structure ever, reaching for the sky, would be of historic significance.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Is there a larger photo taken from the base? All I saw was a thumbnail.

Well that makes it even worse for Burj Dubai - it will only have the third highest observation deck! Ugh!

Actually, the CN Tower is the tallest tower in the world. Burg Dubai is now the tallest building in the world (granted, not yet officially recognized - but we all know it to be true).

Oh well at least there won't be so much trouble when it passes the CN tower, I doubt it needs to be clad or complete before the simple fact of it's being tallest free standing structure makes it so it can be acknowledged thus. Burj Dubai's free standing, complete or otherwise after all, can't wait for 554m...

That was two days ago. Really, great, thanks.
BTW, I hope there will be some celebration when it reaches 646.38 m.

edit: I don't want to spam, but this is rather appropriate place for this link.
There's a whole freakin' documentary about Warsaw Radio Mast here:
http://www.toky.it/video.asp?v=wysokosc
and of course, youtube, where it is being hosted.
Five parts. I'm gonna download this at once.
I can't believe it. A whole documentary.

There was an article about it in 'the Sun' newspaper

Here in the UK, they also mentioned the 693m final height (The same height BBC new quoted on their website) Anyway, the article had an editorial comment saying 'Is it just us or is it leaning?' Anyway ever since i read that i've been looking at some recent pictures and it may be just me but the top most section seems to be at an angle.

Edit:

Here's a link to the online article (However it doesn't have the editorial comments under the picture.)

Beautiful image, Dr Strangelove. I'm looking forward for more of your shots.

The Emirates Towers used to look very tall and huge before. Today I noticed how small they appear in comparison to the Burj Dubai.

I'm not trying to even roughly estimate what the final height would be, but knowing Dubai's "cool number" craze, I think it's almost definite that the final height will have some kind of numerical pattern at least... 818 sounds fair enough so far.
