Can you imagine what a catastrophe it would be if the construction workers - unhappy with working conditions on the Burj - went on strike ... and the thing is never finished???? You know, like that tall hotel project in North Korea?! Yikes! What a nightmare!

That isn't what happened with Ryugyong. The government ran out of money.

And there isn't the remotest possibility that that'll happen.

By the way, great image MetalliTool.

Sorry jaja, just laughing it up! Hats off to you for asking the question here but everyone's gotta learn. If you really don't know what a PDF is, it stands for Portable Document Format. Basically a fancy word for another type of transferable document that displays text and images at a high resolution if needed.

It's another popular product from Adobe, especially in the printing world. If you don't have this very worthwhile software simply Google it & download it. Free versions are available. Does that help?

Ahhh... Just the concrete. I thought it was referring to reaching 818 meters before the end of the year.

Thanks Cullwulla, but isn't 30 floors of unhabitable space alot? I mean this isn't NORAD that they need so much room for mechanical and communications. also, won't be there 5 so called mechanical floors for all of that equipment before the concrete level is topped out. Why not add offices in the steel structure. Concrete pumping up that high is understandable but having actuall offices/residential space in the steel frame doesn't defy the laws of physics.

so let me get this straight.. even though the building could have 160 something floors plus 30 something floors for the steel structure. It won't be officially be referred to as a 190 story building. it will only be recognized as having 160 something floors to the concrete level?

Wow... I learned a lot about the BD today. Thanks Sky Tower for the documents, Fury for breaking them down, Culwulla for clarification, and MetalliTooL for alternate viewpoints

It's very detailed stuff though, isn't it a security risk to have them out there?

And can we please stop slave labour/GDP discussions in the BD thread? There are special threads for them in the UAE section and Sky Bar.

No, MetalliTool.

4 Mechanical floors have been completed.

I think there is still one on the 155/156 level to do.

I'm looking at the last pic I posted, and I can count all 5 mech floors on it (each one being at the setbacks on the left side, starting with the one right under the cladded area). ...Unless some floors look like mech floors but aren't.

yeah you're right. I see 5 mechanical floors complete.
I'm pretty sure I read a few posts here on a mechanical floor being somewhere 155/156 floors..
Maybe 6 all together since the building's height has been extended.

hmmmm. i looked at other pics. it appears that the picture we're looking at makes it look like there is a mech floor somewhere around 100th floor give or take a few.
But they are regular floors. i think.

I think this is the latest render, and there's 5 mech floors:

Looks like we're done with mech. floors until the steel section. By the way, the red in the top section is just an approximation.

Depends on whether the strike was a riot or just a strike. If it was a riot they'd all get deported and would be replaced with new ones willing to take their place, if just a strike some "negotiations" would happen and they'd be back to work in a few days. This already happened btw.
