What do you mean? I haven't heard anything about a temporary lake, they are making a man-made lake. Ooooo they have hexagonal tiles for the floor of the lake too, its going to be nice.

- Perhaps they are refering to the lake that was there before construction started. Maybe some locals can tell us if it used to dry up for part of the year - temporary.

Shot from May 2004.

So the lighting is 1.8 million US dollars - whoa - should be spectacular.

Interesting floor plans...

I'm wondering will Burj Dubai have lighting show? Anyone has rendering of what Burj Dubai would look like in nighttime when it complete? Will it have firework performance on its grand opening?

I think it would be cool if the Burj changed it's color at night every so often by using changing light colors. Such as the Burj Al Arab

A couple more from Arabianbusiness.com:

Haha... Looks so stumpy, compared to what it is now.

This is a pretty awfully edited image (not by me, I might add), but I figured I'd post it anyway.

I hope it doesn't look funny when it's fully clad. I'm so used to seeing it in its bare gray concrete color.

and this city of Dubai, to tell you the truth , for about a year now, I've been hearing about this fast growing under construction city with more than 100 tall towers over 300 M under construction with Who's money and how they got so much other than Oil , which we all have , but have to pay the price for anyway.
But still to my knowledge, I still can't find this city on a world map, and that's the truth.
Please tell me where to pinpoint this city and some background history of it's country and airports, weather, and any fears of Terroists.
also how high in feet is 818 M, please.
Thanks

To answer your first question, United States economy is good and profitable but building higher buildings like Burj Dubai in United States may cost you double or triple (maybe quadruple) the amount. One fact of that is the materials needed to build such build cost higher. The income of the average construction worker in Dubai is around 400 - 900 US dollars a month (correct me if I am wrong. I heard some are not even paid). US Construction worker makes around $2000 - $4000 (More expensive in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles). Plus, there are the unions, the environment inspection, mega US taxes, people protest, politics and many many more. In my overall opinion, I guess if you construct the same Burj Dubai in NYC, it may probably cost you around $35 - 60 billion dollars and a big headache.

In short, the city of Dubai, country of India and China are taking advantage of infrastructure projects because the cost are currently cheap unlike in Europe and US, the cost of such projects are way higher.
